{"id":91349,"date":"2025-05-11T00:14:13","date_gmt":"2025-05-11T00:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/91349\/"},"modified":"2025-05-11T00:14:13","modified_gmt":"2025-05-11T00:14:13","slug":"fuming-gerry-mcculloch-explains-bizarre-var-check-at-nicolas-kuhns-celtic-equaliser-vs-hibs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/91349\/","title":{"rendered":"Fuming Gerry McCulloch explains bizarre VAR check at Nicolas Kuhn&#8217;s Celtic equaliser vs Hibs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Celtic\u2019s win over Hibs was, eventually, a fairly comfortable affair.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite going behind to a shock Hibs first half opener, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/brendan-rodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brendan Rodgers\u2019<\/a> side battled back with ease late on in the first 45 minutes to go in at the break 2-1 ahead.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/nicolas-kuhn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nicolas Kuhn<\/a> and Adam Idah combined to put Celtic ahead and both players were also involved in the Hoops\u2019 equaliser.<\/p>\n<p>However, VAR seemed determined to find something wrong with Celtic\u2019s equaliser as the video referee made a lengthy check on Kuhn\u2019s goal which held up play resuming for a number of minutes.<\/p>\n<p>And reacting at half-time, Celtic TV\u2019s Gerry McCulloch was raging as he revealed the real reason VAR spent an age assessing Kuhn\u2019s goal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2152452547-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Ian MacNicol\/Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-196766\" \/>Photo by Ian MacNicol\/Getty ImagesVAR blasted for \u2018trying to find something\u2019 wrong with Celtic equaliser vs Hibs<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/var\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VAR<\/a> is not without its critics and more often than not it creates controversy where there needs to be none.<\/p>\n<p>And at Celtic Park today, McCulloch blasted the refereeing technology for its lengthy check on a goal that really didn\u2019t deserve the amount of time it took to come the conclusion that Kuhn scored a legitimate goal.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <a href=\"https:\/\/celticfc.tv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Celtic TV<\/a>, McCulloch fumed, \u201cThat stoppage was incredible. I mean, you can understand VAR, when it\u2019s to the benefit when it picks up things that referees miss. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut at no point in that move, would anybody think there was any any issue with that goal, whether it was offside or interference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re trying to find something! Apparently they were looking for interference at the attacking phase of play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>VAR has plenty of work left to improve after another Celtic Park incident<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, VAR didn\u2019t affect today\u2019s result but there has been plenty of controversy surrounding the technology this season.<\/p>\n<p>Against St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, VAR picked up strange comments about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/news\/sfa-release-hampden-audio-and-what-the-referee-surprisingly-said-about-adam-idah-will-surprise-celtic-fans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Celtic striker Adam Idah<\/a> after the match referee appeared to accuse the Irishman of trying to buy a foul.<\/p>\n<p>And let\u2019s not forget the incredible decision to chalk off a goal VAR made the last time Celtic faced Hibs.<\/p>\n<p>The SFA have plenty work left to do to improve the technology and the length of time it takes to check decisions should be one of them.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Celtic\u2019s win over Hibs was, eventually, a fairly comfortable affair.
