According to Met Office aurora maps, the best time to spot the Northern Lights is from 9pm tonight (May 9) until around midnight on Saturday, May 10.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Met Office forecasts clear skies across large parts of the UK tonight, including in northern Scotland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Cloud cover maps show minimal patchy clouds moving across northern parts of the UK, but clear skies for many.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_clear-skies-tonight.png\" alt=\"Met Office cloud cover maps show clear skies for many at 11pm on Friday, May 9\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Met Office cloud cover maps show clear skies for many at 11pm on Friday, May 9(Image: The Met Office)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You may have noticed that the UK is seeing <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/uk-seeing-more-northern-lights-31166053\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">more Northern Lights displays at the moment<\/a>, as many will remember the strong and widespread Northern Lights display that lit up much of the night sky last October.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This is because the Sun is currently in the peak of its 11-year cycle, known as the &#8216;solar maximum&#8217;.
