and hand cash to America&#8217;s rival instead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"author-section byline-plain\">By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/profile-668\/alice-wright.html\" class=\"author\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ALICE WRIGHT FOR DAILYMAIL.COM<\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"byline-section\"> Published:  21:37 EDT, 10 May 2025   |  Updated:  21:37 EDT, 10 May 2025   <\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Canadians are continuing to boycott American vacations, and they&#8217;re turning to the sunny beaches of Mexico instead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Many Canadians have enthusiastically joined a<a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-14354113\/canada-fans-boo-national-anthem-liquor-trump-tariff.html\" rel=\"noopener\"> boycott of American goods and services<\/a> following President Donald Trump&#8217;s tariffs on Canadian goods and threats to <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-14494243\/Canadians-want-join-EU-wake-Trump-bid-51st-state.html\" rel=\"noopener\">annex the country into the &#8217;51st state.&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Canadians have long been the top international travelers to the US, driving $20.5 billion in spending last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">But <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/yourmoney\/article-14594439\/Canadas-vengeful-boycott-major-US-industry-spirals-4billion-28K-jobs-risk.html\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian air travel to the US dropped by 13.5 percent in March<\/a> compared to a year earlier, and those crossing the border by car fell by more than 30 percent, data from Statistics Canada revealed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">By contrast, Canadian visits to Mexico rose by 15.6 percent in March compared to the same month last year,\u00a0according to the Mexican Secretary of Tourism.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;I think they are choosing more friendly policies,&#8217; Mexico&#8217;s tourism secretary Josefina Rodr\u00edguez Zamora <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/b7b22247-79c2-4c1b-9207-c4b59f4ed7eb\">told the Financial Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Rodr\u00edguez said the recent turmoil created by the US has made Canada and Mexico &#8211; one Canadian who recently cancelled a trip to the US wrote on Reddit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;Why would I spend my dollars supporting a hostile regime that aims to destroy the lives of me and my family?&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Another boycotter wrote: &#8216;I am only too pleased to help contribute to the steep decline in their tourism industry, whatever the state or region may have voted for.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;It&#8217;s cheaper to go to Mexico most of the time,&#8217;
