{"id":916238,"date":"2026-04-24T21:45:20","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T21:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/916238\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T21:45:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T21:45:20","slug":"sheffields-streets-set-to-welcome-the-worlds-best-women-cyclists-in-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/916238\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield\u2019s streets set to welcome the world\u2019s best women cyclists in 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sheffield\u2019s steep streets are set to take centre stage in the cycling world as the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift brings its Grand D\u00e9part to the Steel City for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>The second stage of the race will enter the area along Manchester Road, passing Ladybower Reservoir, before heading north up Mortimer Road through the Strines. Riders will then face a series of challenging climbs, including the iconic Jenkins Road.<\/p>\n<p>After tackling these ascents, the route will wind past Meadowhall into the Lower Don Valley, before looping back through Attercliffe and finishing on Attercliffe Common outside the Utilita Arena.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"976\" height=\"548\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/261dcca0-3ccf-11f1-816e-3fe511deafa9.jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-70349\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Dave Coulson, team manager at Cycling Sheffield, highlighted the difficulty of the stage, warning it has the \u201cpotential to end some of the riders\u2019 overall hopes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the challenge, Coulson welcomed the event\u2019s return, saying: \u201cYorkshire is the heart of cycling,\u201d adding that there\u2019s \u201clots of scope to get involved and promote Sheffield and its surrounding areas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It marks 13 years since the UK hosted the men\u2019s Tour de France in 2014, when Vincenzo Nibali secured a famous solo victory before going on to win the overall Tour that year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"752\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_8677-1-1-1024x752.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-70348\"  \/>Tour de France 2014 stg 2 finish<\/p>\n<p>Reaction across Sheffield has been overwhelmingly positive. Mohammed Mahroof of Sheffield City Council said: \u201cThis is a fantastic opportunity for our city to welcome the world, celebrate our vibrant communities, and inspire people of all ages to get active.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Local businesses are also hoping for a repeat of the economic boost seen in 2014, when shops decorated their fronts and welcomed a surge of visitors. Many are now encouraging others across the region to get involved ahead of the event.<\/p>\n<p>The race also carries particular significance for women\u2019s sport in Sheffield.
