Lollipop<\/a>, billed as an “extraordinary” London-set<\/a> drama from writer-director Daisy-May Hudson, has released its first trailer<\/a> as well as confirming its release date<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The film<\/a> tells the story of Molly Brown (Posy Sterling), a young mother who is released from prison after serving four months. Following her introduction back into society, Molly finds herself at the mercy of the system she attempts to collect her children from foster care. <\/p>\n

Following the release of its emotionally-charged trailer (with a quote from The Herald’s review describing it as “extraordinary… vibrant and moving”, Lollipop has also confirmed the date of its theatrical release.<\/p>\n

The film is due to be released in cinemas<\/a> in the UK and Ireland on 13 June<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

“Lollipop tells the story of a young mum, Molly (Sterling), who is released from prison after serving four months, and assumes it will be a matter of hours before she can pick up her children from foster care,” reads the synopsis.<\/p>\n

“Instead, Molly finds herself in the mother of all catch-22s: she can’t get housing because she doesn’t have her kids living with her; but she [also] can’t get them back without a roof over her head. <\/p>\n

“When Molly reconnects with her childhood friend, and fellow single mother, Amina (Idil Ahmed), the two women join forces and take destiny into their own hands,” it concludes, with the film said to feature a “powerhouse” central performance from Sterling.<\/p>\n

Co-starring Teriann Cousins and Tegan-Mia Stanley Rhoads, Lollipop is said to be rooted in “authenticity and lived experience”, with themes including finding joy in hard times and finding the courage to stand up for your loved ones.<\/p>\n

Following its premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival back in August, the drama received positive reviews.<\/p>\n

In addition to the praise from The Herald mentioned above, Eye For Film<\/a> said that Hudson approaches the subject matter with “sensitivity” and “strong respect”. <\/p>\n

“It’s so involving that it\u2019d be easy to watch without realising the most unusual thing about it: from officials to shopkeepers, every single adult character is played by a woman,” noted TimeOut<\/a>, while The Skinny<\/a> lauded Sterling’s “excellent” performance.<\/p>\n
