Reflecting on the viral moment which shocked her just as much as the judges, Victoria said: “Little Robyn who everyone knows #wantsanewgarden, she’s normally very quiet. In class you’d be lucky if she asks if she can go to the toilet so when she was as vocal as she was on stage we couldn’t believe it.<\/p>\n
“Even the mothers were in the audience and said who put 10p in her! It was getting her to be quiet after that was the issue. It seemed to be that she got on that stage and the stage just bought her to life. It was just unreal.”<\/p>\n
But she was keen to stress that Robyn isn’t the only character in the group of 25 six to 11-year-olds. Victoria continued: “To be honest they’re all pretty big characters. You’ve got the twins who are some of the older ones in the group so they tend to nurture the younger ones and look after them. They are just a lovely bunch of girls.”<\/p>\n
Despite the age range, Victoria said the younger dancers had absolutely no trouble keeping up with the older dancers and conceded that the ‘minis’ group were one of the most hardworking ones she’d ever taught.<\/p>\n
However, the journey to the bright lights of Saturday night prime time TV hasn’t been easy. Victoria said she knew the girls had what it takes to push them to the next level after an impressive competition season last year prompted her to apply to the show.<\/p>\n
The dance teacher explained how they began rehearsing in July last year for the auditions in October, and since the summer it has been non-stop with constant training and no holidays. Some weeks the group have been training four to five times to prepare them for the auditions and live performances.<\/p>\n
All that sacrifice was however worth it.<\/p>\n
Victoria said: “It was surreal, we went up their to audition and we said just have fun today and this is where it’s going to end and as long as you have fun that’s all that matters. They all agreed so to find out we were in the semi-finals they say it’s a dream come true.<\/p>\n
“They were so excited, some of them were crying they were so happy, they were just absolutely over the moon. The kids have enjoyed every second of it.”<\/p>\n
Looking ahead to the semi-finals, Victoria said she just wanted the group to soak in the experience and enjoy every second regardless of the outcome. She said: “We’ve had a lot of them from the age of three. A lot of our dancers are long-term dancers and they’re all just really excited.<\/p>\n
“I haven’t really mentioned what if we don’t get through or do get through because for them at the moment they’re just having a really nice time and that’s all we want for them. This is just a really nice experience so it will be absolutely no regrets whatever the outcome, they are having the best time and making memories they will never forget.”<\/p>\n
She added: I’ve just been told by somebody that they feel like it’s bigger and better this time.”<\/p>\n
