Pop icon Gary Numan says humans<\/a> will soon be extinct as robots<\/a> will take over<\/a> the world.<\/p>\n

The 67-year-old singer and pioneer of New Wave music, who has sold more than 10 million records, says Artificial Intelligence could be \u2018the end of us\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Cars singer, real name Gary Webb, said this week: \u201cAI could be the end of us. When it becomes self-aware, we’ll be considered a nuisance.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cAll humanity does is stop the world running smoothly. We are on the cusp of extinction caused by our own stupidity\u2026the sooner we’re gone, the better off nature will be.\u201d<\/p>\n

The dad-of-three echoed the views of Nobel Prize winner Sir Demis Hassabis, who recently said that humans could be \u2018obsolete\u2019 within the next decade.<\/p>\n

Sir Demis, the chief executive and co-founder of Google DeepMind, said that when robots become \u2018self aware\u2019 and can outperform humans, there will be nothing stopping them.<\/p>\n

Legendary film director Ridley Scott – famed for making Blade Runner, Alien<\/a> and Gladiator – raised similar worries. He said that the world will \u2018turn medieval\u2019 when AI takes over.<\/p>\n

Scott warned: \u201cWith AI, the first thing you ask of it is to design an AI smarter than itself\u2026then you get one smarter than you are. At what moment do you overload it with so much information it gets pressure?<\/p>\n

\u201cPressure is emotion. And when that thing’s emotional, we are in trouble. If the AI doesn’t like us, we’re in deep shit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others who fear a robot takeover include rapper Ice-T, who says he reckoned robots will end up \u2018eating us\u2019. Speaking recently, he said: \u201cI don’t think there’s anything we can do to stop technology coming to eat us.<\/p>\n
