Swanky detached homes in a property hotspot are selling for the same price as an average Bristol terrace. This week Zoopla revealed the ‘most popular affordable towns for families’<\/a>, with the majority located in Scotland and Wales.<\/p>\n The list <\/a>accounted for the average price of three-bedroom homes compared to average earnings in the local authority, to rank affordability. Data analysts also considered the average number of Zoopla listing views for a typical three-bedroom home <\/a>in each area, to judge popularity.<\/p>\n The closest location to Bristol was Port Talbot, an hour and 20 minute drive away. With an average three-bedroom house costing \u00a3160,300, it came in at number four on the list, while neighbouring Neath was at number three.<\/p>\n However, a location much further away took the top spot – Glenrothes in east-central Scotland, where a three-bedroom home had an average value of \u00a3136,900. Meanwhile in Bristol, February figures from the Office for National Statistics put the average price of a terraced home at \u00a3389,000.<\/p>\n That figure jumps up to \u00a3698,000 for a detached property, while a semi-detached will typically set a buyer back by \u00a3451,000. Anyone tempted to make the 400-mile move to Glenrothes with the same budget will find a huge difference to how far their money will stretch.<\/p>\n Homes currently on the market in the Scottish town include a seven-bedroom detached villa for sale on a private cul-de-sac called Carnoustie Gardens, with views overlooking Glenrothes Golf Club. It is priced at offers in excess of \u00a3475,000 and also boasts three bathrooms, a sun room, a separate annex and a large south-facing garden.<\/p>\n A new-build property elsewhere in the town is also being marketed with a fixed price of \u00a3369,995. For less than the price of an average Bristol terrace, that will buy you a five-bedroom detached house with four bathrooms and a detached garage, with views over a valley.<\/p>\n For those looking for something with extensive outdoor space, another property priced at offers over \u00a3369,995 also has five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Described as a ‘traditional extended detached villa’, it has extensive garden grounds and an ‘open countryside aspect’ in a village location near Glenrothes.<\/p>\n There are currently no properties up for sale in excess of \u00a3500,000.
