Today some tell us we must repay quickly. That is absurd,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s extend this debt or move to new bond issuance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also renewed calls for joint EU borrowing to fund strategic sectors such as defense, space and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>Mitsotakis echoed the position, questioning the logic of early repayments. \u201cWhat is the point of repaying now\u2026 reducing fiscal space for the next six years when there is strong demand for European bonds?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The issue is expected to surface in negotiations over the EU\u2019s \u20ac1.8 trillion 2028-2034 budget.
