Two months later, it\u2019s losing game director Benoit Richer, who departed to cofound an \u201cindie studio of industry veterans, aligned around a shared vision of the industry and experience creation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richer joined Ubisoft back in 2017 after directing Batman: Arkham Origins at Warner Bros. Montreal. He led the French publisher\u2019s 2018 VR psychological thriller Transference before becoming a game director on Assassin\u2019s Creed Valhalla and later Assassin\u2019s Creed Hexe. He\u2019s now the project\u2019s second high-profile departure this year.<\/p>\n<p>Hocking, an Ubisoft veteran on Splinter Cell, Far Cry 2, and Watch Dogs Legion, was seemingly replaced on Hexe\u00a0after Ubisoft brought back Assassin\u2019s Creed Black Flag and Origins director Jean Guesdon to help lead creative oversight of the franchise (former franchise producer Marc-Alexis C\u00f4t\u00e9 is currently suing the company <a href=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/assassins-creed-lawsuit-ubisoft-marc-alexis-cote-hexe-2000660833\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over an alleged \u201cforced firing<\/a>\u201c).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe sincerely thank [Clint] for his vision, creative contributions, and dedication over the years, and we wish him the very best in his next chapter,\u201d a spokesperson for Ubisoft said at the time. \u201cDevelopment on Assassin\u2019s Creed Codename Hexe continues with a seasoned team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Little is known about Hexe outside of the fact that it will take place during the \u201clatter stages of the Holy Roman Empire\u201d and seemingly involve certain elements of horror and witchcraft, a tonal departure for the period-based stealth action series that usually leans into historical detail rather than supernatural storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not reportedly supposed to <a href=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/far-cry-7-extraction-shooter-assassins-creed-hexe-ubisoft-2000672574\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ship until 2027<\/a>, with Assassin\u2019s Creed Black Flag Resynched being Ubisoft\u2019s big Assassin\u2019s Creed game for 2026. What\u2019s in the works for after that, and whether the franchise will be moving back toward a more annualized release schedule between remakes and spin-offs, remains to be seen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Assassin\u2019s Creed Hexe lost its creative director, Clint Hocking, at the end of February.
