Dundee United romped to a first derby win at Tannadice in five years with a dominant display against city rivals Dundee. <\/b><\/p>\n
The victory also marked Jim Goodwin’s side’s fourth home win in a row – a run of victories that was last achieved in 2014 – and consolidates them in seventh place in the Scottish Premiership.<\/p>\n
Dundee, meanwhile, have failed to win their first post-split fixture for the third time in eight seasons and remain in danger of falling into the relegation play-off scrap. <\/p>\n
Will Ferry was fortunate to open the scoring for United when Zac Sapsford’s deflected shot cannoned off his knee and trickled in off a post. <\/p>\n
Iurie Iovu denied Dundee an almost certain equaliser a few minutes later, heading Luke Graham’s cushioned volley over his own crossbar when it looked destined for the back of the net. <\/p>\n
Joe Westley thought he had levelled for Dundee shortly before the break but, following an onfield review, his brave header was ruled out for a shirt pull on United’s Ross Graham inside the box. <\/p>\n
With 20 minutes to play Utd took control, Ferry unleashing a strike from outside the box which, like his first, kissed the inside of the far post before finding the net. <\/p>\n
Spurred on by his brace, Ferry dug out a fabulous cross to the back post where Ryan Strain was waiting to plant a header into the back of the net to make it 3-0 to United and secure all three points. <\/p>\n
With relegation rivals St Mirren and Kilmarnock both losing this weekend, Dundee remain five points clear of the relegation zone while United are still seventh and seven points above Aberdeen in eighth. <\/p>\n
