Three people have lost their lives in separate road crashes across Northern Ireland<\/a> over the weekend, prompting renewed concern about safety.<\/p>\n

Two fatal incidents occurred in Co Tyrone<\/a> and Co Antrim.<\/a><\/p>\n

Emergency services were called shortly before 6pm on Saturday following reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a car on the Glenavy Road near Maghaberry, in the Moira<\/a> area.<\/p>\n

Drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. A third person was taken to hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

In a separate incident, one person died following a single\u2011vehicle crash on the Derrycourtney Road in Caledon, Co Tyrone, which was reported shortly after 11pm.<\/p>\n

Emergency services attended, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.<\/p>\n

Two cars collided in a third crash at Belfast Road, near Nutt\u2019s Corner in Co Antrim, but the nature of any injuries was unclear on Sunday evening. The road was closed in both directions.<\/p>\n

Alliance<\/a> MLA David Honeyford said the Glenavy Road has long been a concern.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have raised this road so many times. It is frightening. You have multiple junctions, it is one of the busiest roads in Northern Ireland, but there is no break in the traffic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are crossing a dual carriage way essentially. It needs some sort of speed reduction, a roundabout, or something to allow a break in the traffic. The junctions need upgraded. <\/p>\n

\u201cTragically two people have died. It is horrific. I don\u2019t know them personally, but my heart goes out to the families and friends. It is hard to put into words. What do you say when you have another death on our roads? Any loss of life is horrific.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are accidents on the road regularly, but DfI have refused to do absolutely anything. We all need to look at our driving… but we must make that part of the road safer. \u201d<\/p>\n

Sinn F\u00e9in<\/a> MLA Colm Gildernew has expressed condolences following the fatal road accident in Caledon.<\/p>\n

The Fermanagh<\/a> and South Tyrone said: \u201cIt is devastating to hear this tragic news.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will come as a terrible shock to his family, friends and the community and I want to extend my condolences to them at this tragic time.\u201d<\/p>\n

A UUP<\/a> representative for Clogher Valley<\/a> said the news of three deaths is incredibly sad.<\/p>\n

Cllr Meta Graham told The Irish News: \u201cAnother tragedy has visited another family. It is incredibly sad. The emergency services have had to deal with a harrowing experience as any road traffic collision can be.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really is so very sad. Nobody goes out in a car with the intention that they are not coming back. It happens in a split second. I\u2019m thinking of the families who have lost loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n
