So this (new funding) means that if a production just needs that extra amount just to kind of get it over the line, if you like, we’re really hoping that this fund will will come together, hopefully fairly soon, and that will be a real appeal for those productions that are looking at where to be based.”

Despite the positive situation filming in Bristol finds itself in, the omnipresent threat of AI looms above production. Ms Straughan said it was something she kept an eye on, with the possibility of economic and creative damage to the city if production was taken off the streets and purely into studios.

“I think film offices in general are looking at the development of AI (as a threat),” she said.

“Scanning of a location is something that can be relatively easily done now, and there’s lots of discussion about then that scan being used in production or post production of a TV series. So that means that they would be more based in a studio, which is great for studios, but they won’t necessarily be out on location.

“And that economic impact… would include things like catering, accommodation, hire of vehicles, that sort of thing. So if production moves from physically being in a space filming, and switches more into being on a wall or on a screen then that could have an impact on how film offices function.”

Despite the potential problems posed by artificial intelligence to Bristol’s booming film industry, Ms Straughan said nothing could compete with the real thing.

“When I have spoken to productions it feels like, at the moment, that AI would never take over,” she said.

“There is such an advantage of actually filming on location, so I think that that’s something that will always happen.
