\n\tChristopher Landon<\/a>, who was originally set to direct Scream 7<\/a>, is revealing what went down amid Melissa Barrera<\/a> being fired from the film. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn a recent interview with Vanity Fair<\/a>, Landon spoke about what a \u201cdark and tumultuous experience\u201d Scream 7 was. Barrera, who led Scream and Scream VI, was dropped in November 2023<\/a> from the seventh film because of her Israel-Hamas war social media posts.<\/p>\n

\n\tLandon recalls receiving a phone call from Spyglass Media Group, the production company behind the movie, telling him the news that she was let go. He remembers everything \u201ccame tumbling down in an instant.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAnd when Barrera\u2019s co-star Jenna Ortega<\/a>, voluntarily\u00a0left the film following her being fired, things started to get \u201chighly aggressive and really scary\u201d because people blamed Landon for the situation. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPeople were threatening to kill me and my family, to the point where the FBI was getting involved. I got messages saying, \u2018I\u2019m going to find your kids, and I\u2019m going to kill them because you support child murder,’\u201d the Happy Death Day director continued. \u201cThe head of security at various studios and the FBI had to examine the threats.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, Landon confirmed he didn\u2019t, telling Vanity Fair: \u201cI did not fire her. A lot of people think I had something to do with it, and it was not my doing. I had no control of the situation at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOrtega also recently revealed why<\/a> she decided to leave. \u201cIt had nothing to do with pay or scheduling,\u201d she said. \u201cThe Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBecause of the hate the Freaky director received, he decided to exit the movie himself, saying the \u201cabuse really spoiled\u00a0it for me, and I lost my love for the idea of going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLandon\u2019s now moved on as the experience led him to be available to direct his latest thriller, Drop<\/a>, which already received rave reviews and officially hits theaters Friday. Scream 7, which will premiere in February next year, is being directed by Kevin Williamson.
