This is bang on the average across the eight Glasgow constituencies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It is nowhere near the lowest average price in Scotland, held by Greenock and Inverclyde (\u00a390,000), followed by Cunninghame South and Paisley (both \u00a3110,000). In fact, there are 32 constituencies where homes sell, on average, for less than in Glasgow Southside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">And yet the figures show that 50.3% of <a aria-label=\"residents in this seat pay Band A council taxLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk\/lifestyle\/property\/glasgow-southside-beats-west-end-35903745\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">residents in this seat pay Band A council tax<\/a>, the lowest possible rate. Indeed, Shettleston has the highest rate of Band H council taxpayers in Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">After a 5.9% hike across the board, the difference for Glaswegians can be substantial. The 2026\/27 council tax charges rise steeply from \u00a31,572.21 (Band A); \u00a31,834.25 (Band B); \u00a32,096.28 (Band C); \u00a32,358.32 (Band D); \u00a33038.77 (Band E); \u00a33,714.49 (Band F); \u00a34,428.12 (Band G); and an eye-watering \u00a35,484.34 (Band H).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Glasgow is a hotbed of organised criminals\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/0_GettyImages-2202255650.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"The split of Glasgow's council tax bands varies dramatically from one constituency to the next\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">The split of Glasgow&#8217;s council tax bands varies dramatically from one constituency to the next(Image: Getty)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Council tax valuations are based on April 1991 prices, with newer homes given an estimate based on how much they would&#8217;ve been worth 35 years ago. This can make it hard to dispute the valuation and Glasgow City Council state: &#8220;The current value of your home may not be a good guide to the appropriate band.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">But the fact that more than half of council tax payers in one city constituency are paying the lowest possible rate is likely to raise eyebrows across Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">All of the seats tend to include both pockets of deprivation as well as more upmarket areas. For example, Glasgow Southside includes the Gorbals, Cessnock and Govanhill but also parts of hipster districts such as Shawlands, Strathbungo and Bellahouston.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">And Anniesland, which has the lowest percentage of Band A properties and among the highest percentage of Bands D-G, includes leafy Jordanhill but also Scotstoun, Yoker and Drumchapel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Any claims of political bias towards the Nats seem unlikely, given that the SNP has held seven of the eight constituencies since at least 2011 and the last remaining Labour seat (Maryhill and Springburn) fell in 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">So, for now, the question of why some parts of Glasgow appear to be treated so differently by the city council and the Glasgow City Assessor will have to remain a mystery to those of us outside the cloistered
