The <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/conservative-party\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tory leader<\/a> is set to meet Pedro Serrano, the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/european-union\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU\u2019s representative<\/a> to the UK, in London on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to Mr Serrano Mrs Badenoch said <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Conservatives<\/a> \u201cwould take back any legislative or judicial powers handed over to the EU by the present government\u201d if returned to power. Her party is said to be concerned about planned concessions on freedom of movement and fisheries.<\/p>\n<p>Sir <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/keir-starmer\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Keir Starmer<\/a> has used his first 10 months in Government to try to strengthen ties with the EU. He is also set to host a UK-EU summit on 19 May in the UK capital.<\/p>\n<p>But Mrs Badenoch said: \u201cI will make it my mission to take back every power he hands over to Brussels.\u201d She has also claimed that the Prime Minister\u2019s reset \u201cisn\u2019t worth the paper it\u2019s written on\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter, first reported by the Telegraph, Mrs Badenoch wrote: \u201cIt is important that I stress that the next Conservative government under my leadership would not remain bound by terms that failed the five tests set out above, and damaged the interests of the United Kingdom and its people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first of Mrs Badenoch\u2019s five tests is that there must be no \u201cbacksliding on freedom of movement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She warned that the Government\u2019s planned youth mobility scheme with the EU \u201ccould increase immigration asymmetrically\u201d by allowing a new wave of European migration into the UK.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote: \u201cI am wary of arrangements such as \u2018youth mobility\u2019 or asylum returns agreements that could increase immigration asymmetrically, given our ongoing border challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s crucial that any agreements do not exacerbate these pressures, as they would violate the settled principles which the public in the UK voted for in the referendum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She called concessions on access to Britain\u2019s territorial waters in return for defence co-operation with the EU would be \u201ca betrayal of our fishing industry\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A Conservative Party spokesman said: \u201cKemi hopes that pledging to reverse Starmer\u2019s EU surrender will send a clear signal to the EU that any lopsided deal they sign with Labour isn\u2019t worth the paper it\u2019s written on.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Kemi Badenoch has insisted she would reverse any measures in the Government\u2019s post-Brexit reset that \u201cdamaged the interests&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":92318,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5226],"tags":[802,5322,43667,748,2000,299,5187,1699,4884,807,1198,16,25847,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-92317","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-brexit","8":"tag-brexit","9":"tag-brexit-news","10":"tag-brexit-reversal","11":"tag-britain","12":"tag-eu","13":"tag-europe","14":"tag-european","15":"tag-european-union","16":"tag-great-britain","17":"tag-keir-starmer","18":"tag-kemi-badenoch","19":"tag-uk","20":"tag-uk-eu-relations","21":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114488342375807026","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/92317","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=92317"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/92317\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/92318"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=92317"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=92317"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=92317"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
