A dad is preparing to open a Liverpool city centre shop after the success of his first venue. Victor Guzman, who lives in Vauxhall<\/a>, is the brains behind Victor’s Sweet Delights in Waterloo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The ECHO originally spoke to the 49-year-old in September<\/a>, when he explained he was already looking to expand his bakery business just months after opening his first site, all thanks to the city\u2019s reaction. At the time, the shop hadn\u2019t even been open for six months, but despite this, the dad-of-three said he sold out every day thanks to his loyal customer base.<\/p>\n

Following the ECHO\u2019s report on Victor,<\/a> who is originally from the Dominican Republic, he said things got \u201ceven crazier\u201d. He said: \u201cIt has been non-stop. You wouldn\u2019t believe it. After speaking with the ECHO, some people visited the shop and made TikToks, and one has nearly 600,000 views. It has been crazy.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are selling more than we are making. I had to put out an announcement [on social media] to let customers know we would be shutting the shop for four hours to make more desserts. When I said \u2018okay, we are ready to open again\u2019, there were people waiting within 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to ask four other chefs to come in and help me. The queues were non-stop for three weeks, I said to myself, \u2018Oh, my god\u2019. It\u2019s exactly what we wanted; it is a good problem to have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fast forward to now and the dream of the second venue is becoming a reality. The dad is remaining tight-lipped about it all for now but work has already begun on the new store not far from Liverpool Town Hall.<\/p>\n

At the South Road Waterloo<\/a> venue, guests will find everything from handmade cakes, pastries and cheesecakes to tarts, coffee and ice cream. Although this is Victor\u2019s first solo venture, he is no stranger to the industry. His family operate several bakeries, selling similar products, in his home country.<\/p>\n

He previously said: \u201cWhen you take a risk with an idea, it is always going to be a 50\/50 chance with the response. So, for everyone to love the shop makes me so happy. You are always under stress, it is constant, but it is an amazing feeling. I never waste any food; there is never anything in the bin. I sell out every day, and to see that is a pure feeling; it makes you feel strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

Victor, who moved to the city in 2013 with two of his daughters, comes from a family of bakers. He and his brothers were all taught by his dad. The family has 14 bakeries across the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cMy family are all bakers, my father started it and he taught us all. It\u2019s been in my life all my life. My brothers, my son, my uncle, my nephew, it is what we all do.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo now, to have my own bakery is amazing. I love living here in Liverpool, when I first came, within minutes, I had made 20 friends. It is a lovely place. This is the first shop in Liverpool, but it definitely won\u2019t be the last.<\/p>\n

“People are loving it, we have such good reviews, and so many customers keep coming back. It is something unique with its French style. Everything is homemade – I have my own recipes for my sponges, cream and cake.\u201c<\/p>\n

Victor left his home country for work here in the UK. The dad was the head chef at Panoramic 34 for six years.<\/a> However, he knew this was never going to be his whole future.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIt\u2019s a perfect situation being your own boss. Its long hours because you only have yourself to do it all. You need to pay the bills, but it is all worth it.
