The good news is that every time we’ve seen the game since, improvements have been clear, and its latest showcase continues that trend.

Basically, Dawnwalker’s got huge potential. It’s very much a choice-driven adventure, in which protagonist Coen has a set number of days to rescue his loved ones from a vampiric cult.

As such, every decision really does seem to matter, as the story branches out with different quests depending on your actions. You’ll also be in a constant wrestling match with yourself, since Coen can make use of potentially corruptive vampire powers to further his goals.

And before you start to worry, no, this isn’t a time limit in the traditional sense — it’s more like the calendar system from Persona, where time only moves forward when you complete objectives or engage in certain activities.

When you’re not working your way through quests, you’re free to explore what is apparently a fairly sizeable setting. Dawnwalker doesn’t seem to have a massive open world, but you can traverse the medieval city and its surrounding countryside at your own pace.

There’s also plenty of combat to see in the above showcase. Coen has two fighting styles; he’s both an adept swordsman and a viscous creature of the night, and you can progress through a pretty extensive-looking skill tree however you like.

Are you looking forward to The Blood of Dawnwalker?
