{"id":927390,"date":"2026-04-29T23:56:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T23:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/927390\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T23:56:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T23:56:13","slug":"church-receives-tong-road-planning-permission-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/927390\/","title":{"rendered":"Church receives Tong Road planning permission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><strong>By Don Mort<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/lnp\/ldrs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">local democracy reporting service<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A former curtain and blinds shop is to be turned into a church after plans were agreed with the city council.<\/p>\n<p>Christian organisation <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rccg.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Redeemed Christian Church of God<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(RCCG) Power Connections has successfully applied to move into the premises on Tong Road in Wortley.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday services will be held at the site, along with youth clubs and educational events, a planning report said.<\/p>\n<p>It said: \u201cThe provision of a place of worship delivers significant social benefits and directly supports the creation of healthy, inclusive and cohesive communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese uses contribute to social inclusion, support young people and provide opportunities for community interaction in a safe and managed environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leeds City Council gave approval for a change of use planning application from the church.<\/p>\n<p>No external alterations were planned for the existing building, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Plans include a kitchen, reception area, children\u2019s classrooms and a meeting space for teenagers.<\/p>\n<p>The report said: \u201cThe site was most recently in use as a retail premises of a business selling blinds and curtains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe site comprises of a two-storey building and a large car park accessed via both Tong Road and Wortley Moor Road to the south of Tong Road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is parking for 37 cars to the front and side of the building, and it is proposed to have an in\/out arrangement from Tong Road and an out only exit onto Wortley Moor Road.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the congregation, which includes students and young adults, would travel to the new church venue in minibuses, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Some services would be held on Wednesday evenings and a youth club would be held on the last Friday of the month.<\/p>\n<p>The report said: \u201cOn Sundays, the site will be in use for a regular service from 9am to 1pm.
