As the King and Queen were in New York during their four-day state visit<\/a>, the US president said the monarch was a \u201cphenomenal representative for his country\u201d and suggested he would have differed in his approach to the conflict from the prime minister.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cThe King loves his country, and he’s a great king, and he’s a great friend of mine. And I think if that it were up to him, he would have probably helped us with Iran<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Superstar singer Lionel Richie has praised the King\u2019s speech to the US Congress, describing Charles as a wise friend \u201cgiving advice as to what we should be doing\u201d.<\/p>\n

Richie was among a host of celebrity supporters of the King\u2019s Trust<\/a> who joined its founder and the Queen on Wednesday to celebrate the charity\u2019s work and showcase the UK\u2019s cultural impact on New York.<\/p>\n

The gathering of stars, which included Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace<\/a>, fashion guru Anna Wintour<\/a>, British creative Stella McCartney and model Iman<\/a>, came at the end of a whirlwind royal day in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

The King and Queen began by declaring they stood \u201cin enduring solidarity with the American people\u201d when they commemorated those killed during the September 11 terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n

Charles and Camilla\u2019s words of sympathy were written in a message left with a bouquet of flowers placed at the imposing memorial in New York, honouring the thousands of people who lost their lives almost 25 years ago.<\/p>\n

The King discussed the war in Ukraine and called for unity as he spoke to a joint session of the US Congress on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Anthoula Katsimatides, whose brother John died at the World Trade Centre, was among the 9\/11 victims\u2019 relatives who spoke with King Charles and Queen Camilla.<\/p>\n

\u201cI found it extremely sweet that I was allowed to hug the queen,\u201d she told the Associated Press. \u201cShe was quite endearing, as was the king. I also told him that I thought he was adorable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Katsimatides said Charles told her he was surprised by how the memorial had changed in the 10 years since he last visited. She said Camilla asked her if she came to the memorial often.<\/p>\n
