Former SNP junior minister and Alba Party<\/a>\u00a0MSP, Ash Regan<\/a>, was on the campaign trail in Morningside,<\/a> Edinburgh on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She was joined by members of For Women Scotland\u00a0(FWS),\u00a0a group of women from all over Scotland who spearheaded the campaign against the Scottish Gender Recognition Reform Bill<\/a>, which resulted in the Supreme Court Ruling which recognised that the term woman refers to \u201ca biological woman and biological sex\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Marion Calder, the director of FWS, was among those who joined Ms Regan in Morningside.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Regan\u2019s campaign to be re-elected as an independent MSP on the Edinburgh and Lothians East has focused heavily on\u00a0women\u2019s rights and safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In February, she\u00a0attempted\u00a0to have a law passed in the Scottish Parliament to outlaw the selling of sex,\u00a0but the bill was voted down at stage one after the government whipped MSPs against it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She later branded the SNP \u201cquite disgusting\u201d for this move.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Critics say her bill would have increased danger for sex workers, driven the industry underground, and\u00a0failed to\u00a0reduce demand.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She has appeared hopeful so far while fighting\u00a0an\u00a0uphill battle without the backing of an establishment party behind her.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She told The Edinburgh Reporter earlier this month that both men and women have enthusiastically volunteered to\u00a0contribute\u00a0to the campaign and she managed to raise\u00a0thousands of pounds through crowdfunding.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Following the campaign event in Morningside, she said: \u201cGreat to see Marion today while out campaigning in Morningside.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cFWS have done the heavy lifting over the last two sessions of parliament for women\u2019s rights, and I\u2019m proud to stand squarely with them to protect women\u2019s dignity, safety and privacy in Scotland.\u201d<\/p>\n
