The statement added that the school is aware that some parents are feeling ‘concerned’ at the news.<\/p>\n
Caregivers were assured that according to the UKHSA, no additional action was required while the case remained unconfirmed.<\/p>\n
And pupils have not been told to remain at home unless contacted by health professionals.<\/p>\n
However, it is understood that some worried parents have kept their children off school today (Thursday, April 30) as a precaution.<\/p>\n
Information regarding confirmation of the case of meningitis is expected over the next couple of days.<\/p>\n
We have contacted St. Nicholas CE First School for a comment.<\/p>\n
According to the NHS, symptoms of meningitis and sepsis include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- a high temperature<\/li>\n
- cold hands and feet<\/li>\n
- vomiting<\/li>\n
- confusion<\/li>\n
- breathing quickly<\/li>\n
- muscle and joint pain<\/li>\n
- pale, mottled or blotchy skin (this may be harder to see on brown or black skin)<\/li>\n
- spots or a rash (this may be harder to see on brown or black skin)<\/li>\n
- headache<\/li>\n
- a stiff neck<\/li>\n
- a dislike of bright lights<\/li>\n
- being very sleepy or difficult to wake<\/li>\n
- fits (seizures)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Babies may also:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- refuse feeds<\/li>\n
- be irritable<\/li>\n
- have a high-pitched cry<\/li>\n
- have a stiff body or be floppy or unresponsive<\/li>\n
- have a bulging soft spot on the top of their head<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
