I was losing the plot, constantly crying.”

Blundell went on to report of a subsequent conversation with Abrahim: “I was told and advised I was getting called a grass because of the way I was acting, and I was told I should get out of Liverpool because there was a plan in place. Ziggy told me. People have been nicked.”

However, Blundell said that he then left Merseyside, initially on a train to Manchester, saying in his evidence: “There was a point I ended up getting off. It was only a matter of two, three days before I was getting told be careful, there’s a plan to get shut of you. The police went to my mum’s with forensics asking for clothes. It ended up getting too much for me. I ended up getting off to Stoke.”

Blundell reported that he felt “not safe at all” at this time and, when asked why he had travelled onwards to Stoke, said: “I picked Manchester Piccadilly. I got speaking with these lads. They were going to Stoke. I ended up speaking to them and ended up in Stoke myself.

“I was always used to sitting on the streets. He left in the end, he left at Stoke.

“I just carried on drinking as much as I could. However, with his co-accused having been recalled to prison two days before this, he now “accepts that it was not Zayd”.

But Blundell went on to describe how he had been accosted by two men near to the home of a man named Tony Conroy on St Mary’s Close in Wavertree, adding: “I’d seen two lads suited and booted up the road. These were ready.

“You couldn’t see their faces properly. They had these things around their necks. They looked like knives in a sheath. I started running down to the B&M. These have followed me, they’re catching up, a bit of pace.”

Blundell stated that he believed the incident was “definitely something to do with Michael” and, asked why he believed Alasaly had been responsible, he told the court: “There was people speaking around the time. With me getting called a grass, if I was to grass, it would be the Muslim lad. He’d be the one that was coming for me.”

At the close of Mr Myers’ questioning, Blundell went on to allege that Alasaly and Fields had both subjected him to threats during the trial in the process of the three men being transported court. He said of this: “One threat off Zayd was, ‘your little boy’s not gonna be around by the time you come out’. Zayd, I take a threat off very seriously, because I know what he’s capable of. He’ll go to extreme levels. It doesn’t bother him.”

Under cross-examination from Fields’ barrister Paul Bogan KC, Blundell also alleged that his client had “chased him around Lawrence Road in a car with baseball bats”. He added of this: “Ask your client when he got out the car and we had a fight on Lawrence Road.”

Abrahim, aged 61 and of Croxteth Road in Toxteth, 23-year-old Alasaly, of Corinto Street in Toxteth, 26-year-old Blundell, of Corsewall Street in Wavertree, 41-year-old Kasseum, of Lower Breck Road in Anfield, and 50-year-old Fields, of no fixed address, all deny murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
