A man has tragically passed away near Edinburgh Castle<\/a>. The alarm was raised when police received reports of an individual taking unwell on Castlehill near the famous tourist attraction at around 8.45am on Saturday, May 2.<\/p>\n Emergency services, including Police Scotland <\/a>and Scottish Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene. However the male, aged 61, sadly died shortly after they arrived.<\/p>\n There appears to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.<\/p>\n Pictures seen by Edinburgh Live<\/a> show police and paramedics at the scene. Edinburgh Castle informed visitors of a change in their entrance points due to the incident.<\/p>\n A statement on social media reads: “Due to an incident outwith the Castle, you can only visit Edinburgh Castle this morning (Saturday 2 May) by going up the North Wynd Steps from Johnston Terrace, not by walking up Castlehill.<\/p>\n “We are open as usual, and look forward to seeing you.”<\/p>\n A Police Scotland<\/a> spokesperson said: “Around 8.45am on Saturday, 2 May, 2026, we received a report of a man taken unwell in the Castlehill area of Edinburgh<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cEmergency services attended but the man, aged 61, was pronounced dead at the scene. There appears to be no suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.\u201d<\/p>\n
