Roads have been closed as firefighters tackle a large blaze in Heywood.<\/p>\n
The fire is understood to involve a scrapyard on Bamford Road.<\/p>\n
Images and videos taken at the scene and posted to social media show fire crews and paramedics in attendence.<\/p>\n
Bamford Road has been closed by police around the scene. The fire is said to involve ‘a large quantity of material at a scrap metal yard’.<\/p>\n

Plumes of black smoke have been pictured billowing out from the scene.<\/p>\n
It’s understood fire crews are inside the complex hosing water into a warehouse and a number of skips on the site.<\/p>\n
It’s not known whether there have been any injuries.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just after 4pm today (Saturday, 2nd May), firefighters were called to reports of a fire involving a large quantity of material at a scrap metal yard on Bamford Road, Heywood.<\/p>\n
“Four fire engines from Rochdale, Heywood and Bury fire stations swiftly attended the scene and remain in attendance at this time. Crews have been working hard to bring the fire under control, using three jets and two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze. The incident is ongoing, and firefighters continue to work to fully extinguish the fire and ensure the area is made safe.”<\/p>\n
