For Salah, he will have his eye on breaking all sorts of goal scoring records.

Having already achieved his status as third top-scorer in Liverpool history, the Egyptian will now be gunning extra hard to topple Ian Rush in top spot.

And with two more years at Anfield virtually secured, here’s how close we think Mo will come to the moustachioed maestro.

Photo by MI News/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesMohamed Salah eyeing Ian Rush record

Having hit 346 goals for Liverpool, Rush’s goal-scoring record has long seemed completely unassailable. Even Salah, with his feats of finding the net, looked all set to fall well short.

Thankfully, though, Mo is going to get another go. With the 32-year-old sitting on 243, it still seems like a big ask, mind you.

Assuming Salah sees out two more years at Anfield, he would have to score an average of 51.5 goals per season for the Reds. Given his current best stands at 44, that is unlikely to happen.

Over his almost eight years at Liverpool so far, Salah has hit an average of 30.4 goals per campaign.

Rank

Player

Appearances

Goals

Goals per Game

1.

Ian Rush

660

346

1.91

2.

Roger Hunt

492

285

1.73

3.

Mohamed Salah

394

243

1.62

4.

Gordon Hodgson

377

241

1.56

5.

Billy Liddell

534

228

2.34

LFC top five goal-scorers of all-time

READ MORE: What Mohamed Salah has been saying ‘behind the scenes’ about his new Liverpool contract

Going at the same rate, the Egyptian King would scored 61 more goals for the Reds, leaving him on 304 – 39 short of Rush – by summer of 2027.

Of course, there is still a possibility that Salah earns another contract at Liverpool. If he’s bagged 60 goals in two seasons then you’d suggest that may well be the case. At the rate he’s going it would take the No.11 three-and-a-half years to match Rush.

What about Alan Shearer’s Premier League record?

Although he may not reach it, Rush’s is not the only record Salah will be aiming for over the next couple of years.

Having been consistently prolific, Mo sits join fifth with Sergio Aguero in terms of all-time Premier League top scorers. On 184, he is 76 behind leader Alan Shearer.

During his eight seasons in the league so far, Salah has been running an average of 22.75 Premier League goals per season.

Continuing at his current rate, Salah would end his time in England having scored 229.5 league goals. Enough to take him ahead of Harry Kane into second, but still some way off Shearer.

Another season would then take Salah closer, but like with Rush, he’ll statistically need more than three seasons to reach the top of the leaderboard.

Liverpool fans were delivered some fantastic news on Wednesday with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk standing on…

[4100
94,6362,1128,79,16,15
0":"post-9336","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-football","8":"tag-football","9":"tag-ian-rush","10":"tag-mohamed-salah","11":"tag-sports","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
