href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/saveri-law-firm-announces-a-class-action-settlement-for-those-who-purchased-a-digital-game-through-the-playstation-store-during-the-period-of-april-1-2019-to-december-31-2023-that-was-previously-available-through-a-game-specif-302755842.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eligible for compensatory PSN credit<\/a>, and it\u2019s all because of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/saveri-law-firm-announces-a-class-action-settlement-for-those-who-purchased-a-digital-game-through-the-playstation-store-during-the-period-of-april-1-2019-to-december-31-2023-that-was-previously-available-through-a-game-specif-302755842.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$7.85 million class action lawsuit<\/a> which Sony has agreed to settle.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of many similar legal battles the Japanese giant is currently fighting, and it all pertains to the manufacturer\u2019s decision to stop selling digital game vouchers via retail.<\/p>\n<p>While you can still snag denominations of PSN credit from most major third-party stores, the platform holder famously ceased selling game-specific vouchers in April 2019, which entitled you to purchase digital games from a variety of different shops.<\/p>\n<p>This, it\u2019s alleged, is an example of Sony monopolising the market, because it eliminates the competition which naturally occurs between various different retailers, thus forcing consumers to overpay for downloadable software.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, you may receive compensation if you meet the following criteria and you\u2019re from the United States:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>You bought a digital game on the PS Store<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Between 1st April, 2019 and 31st December, 2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>That game previously had a voucher sold at retail<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>That voucher was sold at scale<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>At least 200 units were purchased before April 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The game\u2019s price increased after vouchers disappeared<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Specifically, the average price consumers paid for the game was at least $0.50 higher after April 2019 compared to before April 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can find a full list of the eligible games <a href=\"https:\/\/psndigitalgamessettlement.com\/media\/rkedj2ie\/list-of-eligible-games.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">through here<\/a>, which includes major first-party releases like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps4\/last_of_us_remastered\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Last of Us Remastered<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps4\/infamous_first_light\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inFAMOUS: First Light<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps4\/god_of_war_iii_remastered\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">God of War 3 Remastered<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A fairness hearing on this case is scheduled to take place on 15th October, 2026, and the settlement will only be provided once that\u2019s fully approved.<\/p>\n<p>Should it go through, however, anyone who\u2019s eligible will be credited with a share of the $7.85 million settlement as compensation directly to their PSN wallet.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t expect too much out of this, however: once lawyer fees are accounted for and the money has been divided between all those entitled, you\u2019re probably looking at somewhere in the region of $1-$3 per purchase which matches the criteria outlined above.<\/p>\n<p>The cold, hard reality here is that Sony\u2019s likely made much more than $7.85 million by eliminating game-specific vouchers and forcing people to buy their games on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/tags\/ps-store\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>PS Store<\/strong><\/a>, and so it\u2019ll look upon this settlement as merely the cost of doing business.<\/p>\n<p>But this is unlikely to be the last lawsuit of its kind, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2025\/02\/ps5-maker-faces-lawsuit-over-so-called-sony-tax-on-digital-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">many other
