{"id":934583,"date":"2026-05-03T07:58:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-03T07:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/934583\/"},"modified":"2026-05-03T07:58:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-03T07:58:16","slug":"brighton-home-designed-by-legendary-architect-goes-on-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/934583\/","title":{"rendered":"Brighton home designed by legendary architect goes on sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The semi-detached house at 1 Montpelier Villas, Brighton, was built in the 1840s and designed by renowned architect Amon Henry Wilds.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Amon Henry Wilds was an architect from Lewes who, alongside his father Amon Wilds and partner Charles Busby, was almost solely responsible for shaping Brighton&#8217;s distinctive Regency character, designing landmark schemes such as Kemp Town, Brunswick Town, and Regency Square.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The trio built nearly 4,000 new houses in Brighton during the 1820s alone, many of which survive today as listed buildings, giving the city its celebrated Regency-era streetscapes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>The house dates back to the 1840s (Image: Hamptons)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The house listed for sale by Hamptons is situated in the Montpelier Conservation Area, known for its Regency homes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The six-bedroom home is set across four floors, with a floor space of 4,012sqft.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A spokesman for Hamptons said: &#8220;Number 1 is a supremely spacious and light residence.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Tall windows and soaring ceilings \u2013 characteristic of the era \u2013 contribute to the feeling of space, while an array of period features such as original sash windows, wood floors, picture rails, and ceiling roses are complemented by a modern d\u00e9cor scheme.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The house also boasts four bathrooms, a library, a study, a family room, a kitchen\/dining room, a laundry room, a cloakroom, and a reception hall.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>A view of the house from the garden (Image: Hamptons)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The property has been restored and updated in recent years, including a new kitchen, bathrooms, and solar slates, as well as double glazing to the rear and a triple-glazed skylight.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The ground floor has two reception spaces, both with bow bay windows and feature fireplaces.
