{"id":93523,"date":"2025-05-11T19:58:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-11T19:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/93523\/"},"modified":"2025-05-11T19:58:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-11T19:58:08","slug":"the-kooks-had-to-google-fontaines-d-c-after-meeting-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/93523\/","title":{"rendered":"The Kooks &#8220;had to Google Fontaines D.C.&#8221; after meeting them"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-kooks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Kooks<\/a> have admitted they had to Google <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/fontaines-d-c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fontaines D.C.<\/a> after meeting them backstage at a show last summer.<\/p>\n<p>Luke Pritchard and co. released their new album \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-kooks-interview-new-album-never-know-luke-pritchard-tiktok-3833349\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Never\/Know<\/a>\u2019 on Friday (May 9), the seventh studio record of a career that dates back to the mid-2000s indie scene.<\/p>\n<p>In a new interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contactmusic.com\/story\/470\/3299998\/interview-the-kooks-are-back-with-new-album-never-know-and-they-want-you-to-log-off-social-media-and-listen-to-the-birds-and-their-songs-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Contact Music<\/a>, guitarist Hugh Harris spoke about how it has become common for them to be approached by younger bands who grew up listening to them, but one high profile meeting almost passed him by.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast summer I had to Google Fontaines D.C.,\u201d Harris said. \u201cI was outside our dressing room and they came to say hi and give their respect and love to the band. I was like, \u2018Who they heck are they?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen I was like, \u2018Oh my god they\u2019re huge!\u2019 It\u2019s nice to have that support from both sides.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about The Kooks\u2019 popularity among their younger peers, Pritchard added: \u201cEveryone loves us now. It didn\u2019t use to be like that! We are lucky like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing that I hear a lot about The Kooks, which is maybe a unique-ish thing to us, I always hear the same thing, which is, \u2018I used to listen to The Kooks in the car with my parents and my younger brother.\u2019 It\u2019s always an intergenerational thing. Their parents would get us because they would hear <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-kinks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Kinks<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-beatles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Beatles<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/bob-dylan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bob Dylan<\/a> and the kids liked us, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-kooks-interview-new-album-never-know-luke-pritchard-tiktok-3833349\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NME spoke to the band about their resurgent popularity with a younger generation<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m a musician, so I don\u2019t know how to analyse it too much,\u201d Pritchard said. \u201cYou talk about DNA \u2013 we still have that coming-of-age feel when we play music. We still have it. Hopefully, it\u2019s just because we\u2019re keeping fresh, we\u2019re evolving, and we\u2019re quite open to new things. We don\u2019t think about it overly, we just try to play with a kind of spirit that works with people of all ages, really.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-kooks-announce-2025-uk-arena-tour-buy-tickets-3855252\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Kooks are heading on a UK arena tour later this year<\/a>, kicking off at Manchester\u2019s Co-op Live on October 3.
