With summer holiday season fast approaching, Brits are busy preparing for the occasion by making sure they have all the essentials for their getaways. And Amazon shoppers are rushing to snap up a deal on a gadget that has been branded a “must-have” for peace of mind when it comes to keeping track of luggage when travelling.<\/p>\n

The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 Bluetooth Tracker<\/a> is currently available as a pack of four for \u00a343.40, working out at \u00a310.85 per tag – one of the cheapest offers on the trackers to date – or alternatively there’s the option to buy a single SmartTag2<\/a> for \u00a313.41. This gadget is designed to be clipped on to or hidden inside valuables such as suitcases, keys, wallets, cars, and pet collars to help you find them if they are lost or stolen.<\/p>\n

Dubbed “an Android user’s answer to an Apple AirTag”, the SmartTag2<\/a> works with the SmartThings app<\/a> on Samsung Galaxy devices, and is equipped with a Lost Mode, Search Nearby setting, and Ring Your Tag option to make locating belongings easier. Hundreds of holidaymakers have reported using theirs to help track down their suitcases when they were misplaced by their airline, while others have even credited them with helping them to find their lost cat or dog.<\/p>\n

Others have said their SmartTag2<\/a> comes in handy on a daily basis simply by helping them to find their keys, remember where their car is parked, or have peace of mind about where their bags are when travelling. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that the tags need to be within range of a Samsung Galaxy device in order to be locatable, which can mean its accuracy is diminished in more rural areas.<\/p>\n

By comparison, iPhone and iPad users have the rival Apple AirTag<\/a>, which works the same way with modern iOS devices. A single AirTag is priced at \u00a329 while a pack of four costs \u00a399 both on the Apple website and Amazon<\/a>, making the Samsung SmartTag2 a more budget-friendly choice provided you have a compatible phone or tablet.<\/p>\n

With thousands of reviews from Amazon shoppers, the Samsung SmartTag2<\/a> has earned an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars. One person shared that it had “saved their luggage”, writing: “Really good, I was dubious that it would work but sure enough, I was able to track it in my luggage when it flew to Romania and then watched it not fly to Hungary from Romania… Easy proof that my bag wasn’t in the same country as me. I was able to watch my bag arrive a day or so later on the app which is decent and easy to use.”<\/p>\n

Another reviewer raved: “I am absolutely thrilled with this SmartTag2! It has been a total game-changer for keeping track of my belongings. Whether it’s my keys, wallet, or even my bag, the smart tag makes it so easy to locate everything with just a few taps on my phone. The set up was incredibly simple, and it synced with my phone in minutes.”<\/p>\n

And someone else praised: “This is a true competitor to the Apple AirTag. I am finally happy to have an Android alternative to a Bluetooth tracker. Real-time updating works wonders and it is very reliable to update its location. This is good, so I can see EXACTLY where my luggage is.”<\/p>\n

As mentioned, however, several reviewers pointed out that it only works with Samsung Galaxy phones running Android 9.0 or higher, so is not worth purchasing unless you have one of these devices. Others reminded fellow shoppers that the device needs to be within range of a Galaxy device in order to work properly, which proved to be a problem in some instances.<\/p>\n

One customer complained: “Decent idea, we used them to track our luggage to and from Morocco – BUT you have to rely on other Galaxy users nearby for it to ‘ping’ off for location, it wont tell you exactly where it is but roughly in an area. Could be better, but useable.”<\/p>\n

And a different reviewer fed back: “It’s not that brilliant for updating location. Possibly ok in a built up area but not good for a rural location… looking at alternative options.”<\/p>\n

Samsung explains: “SmartTags communicate with your Galaxy smartphone or tablet using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and have a maximum connection range of 120 metres.<\/p>\n

“If your SmartTag is outside of this range, you can still locate it using offline finding in SmartThings Find. SmartThings Find uses other users Galaxy devices, in the Galaxy Find Network, to help you locate your SmartTag.”<\/p>\n
