Councillor Mark Robinson has called for tougher action to tackle littering in the Aughnacloy area and the illegal dumping of carcasses in Mid Ulster watercourses.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the April 23 full Council meeting, the DUP representative for Clogher Valley DEA commented: \u201cIt was just in relation to fly-tipping in Aughnacloy. It was brought to my attention at the beginning of this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been an ongoing issue around the Dungannon Road area of the town. It seems there may be a number of flats there that do not have their own bins and appear to be leaving rubbish on the side of the street, and I think it is something that needs to be addressed and we should not be tolerating it as a Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the back of that, just last night I was contacted by another constituent who had been out on one of the local rivers and witnessed a number of carcasses of dead animals floating down the river.<\/p>\n
\u201cAgain, until this Council starts taking action against this, people are going to continue to do it.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to do something stronger, whether it is fines or [otherwise]. I know it is very difficult to prove anything, but between fly-tipping and rubbish, it has just become a real pain in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
Council Deputy Chair, Councillor Denise Johnston concurred with Councillor Robinson, remarking: \u201cThank you, Councillor Robinson, for bringing that.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is indeed very worrying, and very unsightly and unhealthy as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
