This will see a host of new shops and leisure options opened &#8211; including the largest M&amp;S in the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Glasgow Fort is currently home to over 100 shops, restaurants and cafes. However, recently submitted plans highlight that it is aiming for a major 60,000 sq. ft expansion to its <a aria-label=\"shoppingLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/shopping\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">shopping<\/a> and leisure experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">If the plans are approved, this would see the current <a aria-label=\"Marks &amp; SpencerLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/marks-spencer\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Marks &amp; Spencer<\/a> branch upsized by over 32,000 sq. ft, turning it into a flagship for the retailer. This would make it the biggest store in the country, overtaking the current flagship in Edinburgh&#8217;s Straiton that measures 15,000 sq. ft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The revamped, larger store concept will provide visitors with a more &#8220;spacious, convenient shopping environment&#8221;. This will span a wider range of products across categories including clothing, <a aria-label=\"foodLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/food\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">food<\/a> and flowers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">That&#8217;s not all, as the plans have also included enhanced upgrades to the Glasgow Fort leisure offering. It builds on a period of strong growth for the shopping destination and comes in response to growing public demand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Glasgow Fort has cemented its position as one of the leading retail and leisure destinations in the country. In 2025, it recorded its &#8220;highest-ever visitor numbers&#8221;, with footfall rising by eight percent over the 12 months<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The growth has been attributed to a rising demand across fashion, health and beauty, food and beverage. This includes a new The Works that just <a aria-label=\"opened at the end of AprilLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/major-uk-retailer-over-500-37058933\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">opened at the end of April<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The stationary brand can now be found between Fort News and Greggs. It marks the sixth store for the retailer in Glasgow alone, with other locations including Sauchiehall Street, alongside the St Enoch Centre and Silverburn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Meanwhile, in October 2025, the shopping centre&#8217;s River Island store relocated a larger, more modern 13,616 sq. ft unit next to Superdry and Bperfect, marking <a aria-label=\"the &quot;largest ever&quot; for the fashion brand in ScotlandLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/popular-fashion-chain-opens-biggest-36113870\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">the &#8220;largest ever&#8221; for the fashion brand in Scotland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Designed with River Island&#8217;s signature style in mind, the store now offers a larger selection of womenswear, menswear, and kids&#8217; clothing.
