One of Scotland’s busiest shopping centres<\/a> is set for a major upgrade. This will see a host of new shops and leisure options opened – including the largest M&S in the country.<\/p>\n Glasgow Fort is currently home to over 100 shops, restaurants and cafes. However, recently submitted plans highlight that it is aiming for a major 60,000 sq. ft expansion to its shopping<\/a> and leisure experience.<\/p>\n If the plans are approved, this would see the current Marks & Spencer<\/a> branch upsized by over 32,000 sq. ft, turning it into a flagship for the retailer. This would make it the biggest store in the country, overtaking the current flagship in Edinburgh’s Straiton that measures 15,000 sq. ft.<\/p>\n The revamped, larger store concept will provide visitors with a more “spacious, convenient shopping environment”. This will span a wider range of products across categories including clothing, food<\/a> and flowers.<\/p>\n That’s not all, as the plans have also included enhanced upgrades to the Glasgow Fort leisure offering. Among them will be a bowling alley and an arcade, as the shopping centre looks to bring “more fun and entertainment” to the area.<\/p>\n The expansion will see the current M&S upsized by a staggering 32,000 sq. ft(Image: Glasgow Fort)<\/p>\n The application for plan approval follows two public consultations that were held last year. It builds on a period of strong growth for the shopping destination and comes in response to growing public demand.<\/p>\n Glasgow Fort has cemented its position as one of the leading retail and leisure destinations in the country. In 2025, it recorded its “highest-ever visitor numbers”, with footfall rising by eight percent over the 12 months<\/p>\n The growth has been attributed to a rising demand across fashion, health and beauty, food and beverage. As of writing, the shopping centre is home to many major brands that include Zara, Boots, Wagamama, Nando’s and much more.<\/p>\n Phil Goodman, centre director at Glasgow Fort, said: “We know people are looking for more choice and more to do when they visit us, and these plans are about creating a better overall experience for our visitors.<\/p>\n The 60,000 sq. ft plans will also include a bowling alley and an arcade(Image: Glasgow Fort)<\/p>\n “A bigger M&S would mean an improved range and easier shopping, while the new leisure options would give people even more ways to enjoy their time here \u2013 whether that\u2019s a shopping trip, a meal out or a fun day with family and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n Rachel Rankine, Regional Manager, M&S, said: “<\/strong>We\u2019re excited about the opportunity to significantly expand our Glasgow Fort store and create a standout M&S destination for our customers in Scotland. If approved, this extension would allow us to showcase a bigger range of our delicious, trusted value Food and great quality Fashion, Home and Beauty products.<\/p>\n “Glasgow Fort is an important location for us and these plans will help us deliver a modern, spacious and enjoyable shopping experience for our customers.”<\/p>\n News of the expansion plan submission follows numerous new retailers cropping up in Glasgow Fort, offering more choice for visitors. This includes a new The Works that just opened at the end of April<\/a>.<\/p>\n The stationary brand can now be found between Fort News and Greggs.
