The actor, 47, scooped up the BAFTA for Best Male Performance in a Comedy for his role in the Sky Comedy series Mr Bigstuff, and his excitement was palpable. Upon receiving the award, Danny quipped: “The acting was so bad it was funny.”

However, he left the audience gobsmacked by dropping several expletives during his speech, despite previous warnings about BAFTA’s strict language policy. Overwhelmed with emotion, Danny confessed to getting “choked up” while delivering his heartfelt thanks at London’s Royal Festival Hall. In a touching tribute, he dedicated the award to writer Ryan Sampson, jesting: “He’s one of the greatest people ever to come out of Rotherham – not saying much. You won this for me mate.”

Danny then shouted out to his daughters, “Girls – Sunni, Dani, I done it,” before defiantly breaking protocol with a bold declaration: “I f***ing done it.”

His choice words forced presenter Alan Cumming to state that he was “asked to apologise” for Danny’s language. However, the BBC made a quick cut as the expletives were not included in the final edit. Instead, all viewers heard was “Sunni, Dunno, I done it girls.”

But Danny wasn’t alone in his disregard for the no-swearing policy. Sophie Willan also flouted the rules during her acceptance speech for Alma’s Not Normal, which won Best Scripted Comedy.

“It’s been s*** hot,” she exclaimed, quickly realising her slip-up and covering her mouth. Despite the faux pas, the audience responded with laughter, finding humour in her candid moment.

It comes after Danny hit out to EastEnders in a scathing tirade, branding the BBC soap “s**t”. Speaking at a charity event on Friday night (May 9), the 47-year-old gave a brutally honest account of his time on the long-running soap, revealing that he would often be drunk on set, or take Vallium and Diazepam before shooting scenes.

He also revealed how several stars had the “hump” when he joined the show as pub landlord Mick Carter back in 2013 which made things “tricky”.

When the Rivals star was asked what he thought about the programme since he left Albert Square in 2022, he said: “S**t now though, ain’t it.
