{"id":939200,"date":"2026-05-05T11:25:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T11:25:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/939200\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T11:25:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T11:25:17","slug":"new-41m-charfield-train-station-already-taking-shape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/939200\/","title":{"rendered":"New \u00a341m Charfield train station already taking shape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s due to open next spring<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"eager\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/0_Charfield-Station-Update-April26JPG.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Charfield Station is due to open in spring 2027\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Charfield Station is due to open in spring 2027<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The new \u00a341.7m <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/work-finally-set-start-new-10400503\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Charfield Station<\/a> is taking shape, with platforms and footbridge already in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The station will give residents of Charfield and surrounding areas access to rail services running through the village for the first time in more than 60 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Train services &#8211; operated by GWR &#8211; will initially be every hour and will reach central Bristol in 32 minutes, and Gloucester in 22 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Station facilities will include a pedestrian footbridge with accessibility lifts, bus stop, cycle parking, and car parking facilities for those travelling from surrounding towns and villages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Around 14,500 people live within three miles of the new station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/south-gloucestershire\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">South Gloucestershire<\/a> Council cabinet member for planning, regeneration, and infrastructure Chris Willmore, said: \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to see the new station taking shape. The project is a key part of our strategic approach to improving transport links and choices for local people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThis project is now well under way and we are pleased as a council, working with our partners, to be delivering this major investment in the future of Charfield and surrounding area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Mayor of the West of England Helen Godwin added: \u201cFor the first time in more than 60 years, trains will soon be serving Charfield. This is such great news for the people who live here as well as for reducing congestion, pollution and boosting the economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cCharfield is one of five new stations we are already delivering across the West. We are investing funding that we have secured from the government to build a transport system that works for our region, including with more trains and better buses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Route strategy director for Network Rail and GWR Jo Grew, said: &#8220;Following in the footsteps of Ashley Down station in Bristol, Charfield will reconnect this community to the rail network for the first time since 1965. This new station will transform how people travel locally, providing faster, greener and more reliable connections, supporting access to jobs and education, and helping to reduce congestion on local roads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThis isn\u2019t just trains and track \u2013 it is about reconnecting people to rail and providing a vital economic catalyst across the region. This project validates our belief that reliable rail services are essential for local and national growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Charfield station is part of a wider \u00a3400 million rail investment plans in the West of England.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Five new stations are set to be built over the coming years in the West: Charfield, Henbury, <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/train-station-bristol-new-town-10878730\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Bristol Brabazon<\/a> in North <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/filton\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Filton<\/a>, Pill, and <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/portishead\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Portishead<\/a>.
