A pensioner has been detained after a 71-year-old woman was found dead at a property on Newfield Square in Nitshill at around 9.45pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Floral tributes have been left outside a home in Glasgow with police still at the scene following the death of a woman<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A pensioner has been detained after the 71-year-old was found dead at a property on Newfield Square in Nitshill at around 9.45pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Officers<\/a> were responding to reports of a disturbance at a home on the street before the woman was found seriously injured.<\/p>\n

She was pronounced dead at the scene and police<\/a> have since confirmed that a 78-year-old man has been detained.<\/p>\n

The local community have been left in shock following the incident<\/a> and flowers have been left outside the property.<\/p>\n

Local children have drawn pictures and the words “RIP Margret, we miss you” has been written in chalk on the pavement alongside a love heart and a star.<\/p>\n

It’s understood police and ambulance crews descended onto the scene shortly before 10pm last night.<\/p>\n

A cordon was placed near the property and officers remained stationed outside the home overnight.<\/p>\n

One neighbour told the Record: “It’s really shocking. We just heard all the sirens at around 10pm and looked outside to see all the police outside. We knew something serious had happened straight away.<\/p>\n

“A cordon was placed near the home<\/a>, where an elderly couple stayed. No one will tell us what happened but everyone has been left in shock.”<\/p>\n

Another neighbour added: “We don’t want to speak about what happened. It has been an emotional day for everyone here.”<\/p>\n

A police car<\/a> remained stationed outside the home on Sunday evening with a number of uniformed officers still at the scene.<\/p>\n

The force say enquiries are at an early stage and remain ongoing. There is no risk to the wider public.<\/p>\n

A Police Scotland<\/a> spokesperson said: “Shortly before 9.45pm on Saturday, May 10 2025 officers attended the report of a disturbance at a house in Newfield Square in Nitshill, Glasgow.<\/p>\n

“A 71-year old woman was found seriously injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 78-year-old man has been detained and there is no risk to the wider public.
