Expected to start on Monday, May 19, the work will last for around 12 weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The council said it will include the installation of new traffic signals with pedestrian crossing facilities to control traffic through the junction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This will improve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/2025\/05\/09\/speed-enforcement-in-west-midlands-not-a-revenue-raiser-councillors-told\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">road safety<\/a> and access for all pedestrians and especially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/uk-news\/2025\/05\/07\/parents-paying-hundreds-of-pounds-more-a-year-to-send-child-to-school-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">school children<\/a> walking to schools in the local area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/90c602f4-8b82-4a50-9935-36f067751294.png\"   alt=\"A road improvement scheme has been planned for the junction of Warley Road and Basons Lane in Oldbury. Photo: Google <\/p>\n<p>There will also be associated infrastructure work including ducting, kerbing, drainage, carriageway surfacing and the removal of the existing zebra crossing facility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Temporary traffic signals and lane closures will be in operation during the works and there may also be some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/2025\/04\/08\/temporary-road-diversions-in-place-for-multiple-roadworks-in-wolverhampton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">temporary road closures<\/a> towards the end of the works whilst the carriageway surfacing is carried out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/2025\/04\/05\/mixed-reaction-as-sandwell-council-unveil-new-pothole-fixing-machine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Councillor Keith Allcock,<\/a> Sandwell Council\u2019s Cabinet Member for Environment and Highways, said: \u201cThis is a positive road safety project which is just one part of our wider road safety programme.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImprovement projects such as this have been instrumental in lowering traffic related injuries and have helped to reduce total road casualties in Sandwell by nearly 50% in the last 20 years.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The project will cost \u00a3300,000 and funding has been made available through the Local Network Improvement Programme (LNIP) to improve road safety at the junction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Haystoun Construction Ltd have been awarded the contract.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sandwell Council has announced a road improvement scheme at the junction of Warley Road and Basons Lane in&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":93925,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7820],"tags":[855,748,393,4884,379,12,705,12608,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-93924","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-birmingham","8":"tag-birmingham","9":"tag-britain","10":"tag-england","11":"tag-great-britain","12":"tag-local-hubs","13":"tag-news","14":"tag-oldbury","15":"tag-sandwell","16":"tag-uk","17":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114491842188941650","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/93924","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=93924"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/93924\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/93925"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=93924"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=93924"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=93924"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
