{"id":939875,"date":"2026-05-05T18:35:31","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T18:35:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/939875\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T18:35:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T18:35:31","slug":"bristol-bears-injury-latest-ahead-of-saracens-benjamin-grondona-louis-rees-zammit-santi-grondona-gabriel-oghre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/939875\/","title":{"rendered":"Bristol Bears injury latest ahead of Saracens: Benjamin Grondona, Louis Rees-Zammit, Santi Grondona, Gabriel Oghre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bristol Bears host Saracens at Ashton Gate on Saturday in Round 15 of the 2025\/26 Gallagher PREM<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"eager\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1_Bristol-Bears-v-Harlequins-Gallagher-PREM-Principality-Stadium.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">(Image: PA)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Welsh star full-back Louis Rees-Zammit and Argentina international Santi Grondona are back in the selection mix for <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-bears\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Bristol Bears<\/a> \u2019 make-or-break play-off race game with Saracens on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Rees-Zammit has recovered from a training ground knee injury, while Grondona has been absent with a calf strain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Bears come into the match sitting fifth in the table, just one point behind Exeter Chiefs, who are sat in the final play-off place. Saracens still harbour a glimmer of hope of being involved in the conversation, trailing Bristol by six points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">But while two internationals are set to return this weekend, Bristol director of rugby Pat Lam confirmed that Argentina international number eight Benjamin Grondona and England international hooker Gabriel Oghre have both been ruled out for the rest of the season following the injuries they sustained up at Newcastle Red Bulls last time out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Lam said: \u201cGabe Oghre twisted his knee on that artificial pitch, so he\u2019s had surgery, and he\u2019s gone for the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;What happened to Oghre was 100 per cent the pitch because he lands, his foot gets stuck, and he gets twisted trying to jump someone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cBen Grondona, again, when he went down, got caught in a tackle there, so he\u2019s torn a bit of his pectoral, so he\u2019s out for the rest of the season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Providing an update on his trio of players who suffered hamstring injuries at Newcastle, Lam said: \u201cRich Lane, he\u2019s not too bad. Joe Batley and Noah Heward, those boys are back training but on modifications, so we\u2019ll see what happens with those guys. At least it wasn\u2019t as bad as we originally thought. I\u2019m trying to catch up on that because you have to finish the season with that average.
