{"id":940726,"date":"2026-05-06T03:56:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T03:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/940726\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T03:56:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T03:56:15","slug":"around-and-around-grateful-deads-steal-your-face-turns-50-gets-remastered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/940726\/","title":{"rendered":"Around and Around: Grateful Dead&#8217;s &#8220;Steal Your Face&#8221; Turns 50, Gets Remastered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/store.dead.net\/collections\/music\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-107734 size-medium\" title=\"Grateful Dead Steal Your Face\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Grateful-Dead-Steal-Your-Face.jpg\" alt=\"Grateful Dead Steal Your Face\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"  \/><\/a>BUY NOW FROM DEAD.NET<\/p>\n<p>Grateful Dead\u2019s series of 50th anniversary reissues rolls on with today\u2019s announcement of a remastered vinyl edition of the 1976 live album Steal Your Face.\u00a0 Featuring Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Keith Godchaux, and Donna Jean Godchaux, the double album was culled from the same October 1974 Winterland shows which yielded The Grateful Dead Movie \u2013 the expanded soundtrack of which was <a href=\"https:\/\/theseconddisc.com\/2026\/03\/18\/mondo-grateful-dead-movie-soundtrack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently reissued on vinyl by Mondo<\/a> as a 10LP box set.\u00a0 For this vinyl edition, Steal Your Face has been newly remastered by David Glasser and sourced from the master tapes which were restored and speed-corrected using Plangent Processes.\u00a0 Lacquers were cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering.\u00a0 It\u2019s due on June 26 \u2013 50 years to the date of its original release.\u00a0 The remaster will also be released in digital formats.\u00a0 No remastered CD has been announced.<\/p>\n<p>Steal Your Face was the Dead\u2019s only album released in 1976.\u00a0 Jerry Garcia was busy editing The Grateful Dead Movie, leaving Phil Lesh and engineer Owsley \u201cBear\u201d Stanley to revisit the 16-track tapes for a live album.\u00a0 They balanced what any fan might expect from such an effort, including concert favorites (\u201cCasey Jones,\u201d \u201cU.S. Blues\u201d), cuts from the bandmates\u2019 solo albums (Weir\u2019s \u201cBlack-Throated Wind,\u201d Garcia\u2019s \u201cSugaree\u201d), and intriguing covers (Marty Robbins\u2019 \u201cEl Paso,\u201d Johnny Cash\u2019s \u201cBig River,\u201d Chuck Berry\u2019s \u201cPromised Land\u201d and \u201cAround and Around,\u201d Jesse Fuller\u2019s \u201cBeat It on Down the Line\u201d).\u00a0 The album hit stores in June just as the band returned to the road following their 20-month sabbatical from touring.\u00a0 As well as chronicling the final shows featuring the band\u2019s Wall of Sound system, Steal Your Face proved to be the final release on the original Grateful Dead Records.\u00a0 The band signed with Clive Davis\u2019 Arista label shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>The remastered 2LP set features the Dead\u2019s official Pantone colors, \u201cGrateful Red\u201d and \u201cStealie Blue.\u201d\u00a0 An exclusive Dead.net variant adds black splatter to both discs.\u00a0 The center labels include the \u201cSteal Your Face\u201d logo\u2019s facial features gradually fading away across the four sides of vinyl.\u00a0 An 11 x 11\u201d sticker sheet is also included.<\/p>\n<p>Rhino is previewing the remastered album with Weir and John Barlow\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_XN7jE3Vk88\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cBlack-Throated Wind,\u201d<\/a> streaming now.\u00a0 Archivist David Lemieux notes in the press release, \u201cA staple of the live repertoire 1972-1974, thankfully returning in 1990, \u2018Black-Throated Wind\u2019 is widely considered one of Bob Weir\u2019s finest compositions.
