{"id":940914,"date":"2026-05-06T06:00:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T06:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/940914\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T06:00:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T06:00:18","slug":"global-showcase-for-edinburgh-surfing-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/940914\/","title":{"rendered":"Global showcase for Edinburgh surfing event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Edinburgh is set to welcome back some of the world\u2019s most exciting surfing this month as Lost Shore Surf Resort hosts the return of its flagship competition, the Hi-Land Fling.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day event at Ratho on May 15 and 16 brings together 20 elite international surfers, including Olympians, Challenger Series qualifiers, national champions and rising stars.<\/p>\n<p>Hi-Land Fling will also feature public surf sessions alongside the pros, an exclusive high-performance showcase session with spectator access, a surf film screening and athlete Q&amp;A, and a full competition day complete with live DJ sets, commentary and a podium celebration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The event is fast establishing itself as a standout event on the European surf calendar, positioning Scotland as an emerging force in global surf culture.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Larg, a world-class big wave surfer from Scotland, is included along with multiple British national winner and defending women\u2019s champion, Lauren Sandland.<\/p>\n<p>Alys Barton, the first British surfer to secure a full Challenge Series season place through qualification, is also set to attend along with Tim Eter, Germany\u2019s leading male surfer and an Olympic competitor, and Camilla Kemp (Germany), an Olympian and one of Europe\u2019s top-ranked surfers.<\/p>\n<p>Seven-time Irish National Champion, Gearoid McDaid, returns and Conor Donegan Santos (Spain), the defending men\u2019s champion, is also listed. <\/p>\n<p>McDaid said: \u201cTo have an event of this calibre in this part of the world is massive. Last year was incredible, and you could really feel how much it meant to the surf community here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor surfers across the UK and Ireland, it\u2019s not often you get the chance to compete against this level of international talent on your doorstep, so to come back and do it again is really special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elter added: \u201cThe level of surfing is seriously high, and wave pools like Lost Shore Surf Resort give us the chance to push performance in a really controlled way, which makes things much more technical.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery wave is consistent, so it really comes down to execution and precision, which is great from a competitive point of view.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barton said: \u201cEvents like Hi-Land Fling are a huge step forward for British surfing.
