(Photo by Leon Neal\/Getty Images)\" decoding=\"sync\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tPolling places will be open from 7am to 10pm tomorrow (Picture: Leon Neal\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>After weeks of leaflets, door-knocks and speculation about the future of <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/sir-keir-starmer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Keir Starmer<\/a>, it\u2019s almost time for much-anticipated elections to take place across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, voters in Wales and Scotland will elect MSs and MSPs to fill their respective devolved Parliaments.<\/p>\n<p>And at the same time, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/england\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">England<\/a> will be picking more than 4,850 councillors for seats in 134 of its 317 councils including 32 <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/london\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London<\/a> Boroughs.<\/p>\n<p>Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm. You\u2019ll need to take a form of ID with you (a passport or driving licence are two valid examples), and as long as you\u2019re in the queue by 10pm you will be allowed to vote.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2273248145.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28254857\" alt=\"Prime Minister Keir Starmer Gives Statement On Antisemitic Terrorist Attack In Golders Green\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tIt\u2019s predicted that Labour will face challenges on election day, posing problems for Keir Starmer (Picture: Jack Taylor \u2013 WPA Pool\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>After polling stations shut up shop for the night (<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/05\/05\/major-change-comes-this-weeks-local-elections-first-time-154-years-28239844\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perhaps literally<\/a>), the counting process will begin. Sign up <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/newsletters\/alright-gov\/??ito=politics-article&amp;signup-source=politics-article-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s when you can expect results will start arriving.<\/p>\n<p>Friday May 8<\/p>\n<p>Most of the English councils announcing results overnight on Friday will only be electing a third or half of their councillors, which can make dramatic shifts in power less likely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1:00am: <\/strong>Results from <strong>Broxbourne<\/strong> and <strong>Halton<\/strong>, where a third of each council is being decided.<\/p>\n<p>That arrangement means no party other than the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/conservative-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Conservatives<\/a> can win control of <strong>Broxbourne<\/strong> due to the current make-up, though it could slip to no overall control if they drop enough seats.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Halton<\/strong>, Labour has enough of a majority to ensure they\u2019ll stay in charge regardless of how the vote goes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1:30am: Harlow<\/strong>, which also elects in thirds, will reveal results. It\u2019s possible that the Conservatives could lose control, however with Reform\u2019s prescence in <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/essex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Essex<\/a> an outcome of no overall control is likely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1:45am: Redditch<\/strong> also elects in thirds. Labour only needs to retain one seat to stay in control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2:00am:<\/strong> <strong>Chorley,\u00a0Hart, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/hartlepool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hartlepool<\/a>, Hull, Lincoln, North East <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/lincolnshire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lincolnshire<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Rochford\u2019s<\/strong> results will be in. All seven elect in thirds.<\/p>\n<p>Both <strong>North East Lincolnshire<\/strong> and <strong>Hull<\/strong> currently have Reform mayors after big victories in last year\u2019s elections, and the party\u2019s popularity could result in these councils ending up with no overall control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2:30am:<\/strong> <strong>Tamworth <\/strong>and <strong>Wigan<\/strong>\u2018s results will come in, which both elect in thirds and cannot be lost by Labour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3:00am: Basildon, Bolton, Brentwood, Exeter, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/oxfordshire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oxford<\/a>, Peterborough, Portsmouth, Reading, Salford, Southend-on-Sea, Tameside,<\/strong>\u00a0all\u00a0of which elect in thirds, will reveal results.<\/p>\n<p>The Lib Dems who currently run <strong>Brentwood<\/strong> in coalition with Labour could take control, however all others are likely not to change, or to result in no majority.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/SEI_295900015-7914.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28240546\" alt=\"MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 26: (L-R) Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham and the Labour candidate for Gorton and Denton by-election Angeliki Stogia visit the polling station at the United Church of God Assembly on February 26, 2026 in Manchester, England. (Photo by Ian Forsyth\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p><strong>3:30am: Colchester <\/strong>and <strong>Dudley<\/strong>, who both elect in thirds, will give their results, which are likely to be maintained \u2018no overall control\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Westminster <\/strong>is the first council that has has all seats up for grabs. Labour gained this council from the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/conservative-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Conservatives<\/a> in the last election, but the Tories could steal it back.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4:00am:<\/strong> Results in <strong>Fareham<\/strong>, which elects in halves every two years, plus all-seat elections in <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/hampshire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hampshire<\/a> (Conservative-held), <strong>Newcastle-Under-Lyme<\/strong> and <strong>Wandsworth <\/strong>(both Labour-held but only since 2022).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gosport, Havant<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Plymouth<\/strong>, which elect in thirds, are also up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4:30am: Sutton <\/strong>and <strong>Ealing <\/strong>will share results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5:00am: <\/strong>Results from<strong> Bexley<\/strong>, which could sway from Conservative to Reform, and <strong>Kensington and Chelsea<\/strong>, alongside <strong>Richmond-upon-Thames<\/strong>, <strong>Eastleigh <\/strong>and <strong>Stockport<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5:30am<\/strong>: <strong>Hammersmith &amp; Fulham <\/strong>will declare results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:00am<\/strong>: Results from <strong>Havering<\/strong>, where Reform are hoping to do well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:30am:<\/strong> <strong>Southampton <\/strong>will declare, another council electing in thirds where Labour can\u2019t mathematically lose control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9:30am<\/strong>: This is when we should get the first results from the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/scottish-parliament\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scottish parliament<\/a> elections. MSPs are elected for regions and constituencies using two different voting systems. The SNP is predicted to be the biggest party, but there are question marks over whether it will get a majority and which party will become the official opposition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11:00am: <\/strong>Results will start to come through from the Senedd elections in <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/wales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wales<\/a>. (Photo by Christopher Furlong\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:30pm<\/strong>: <strong>Blackburn <\/strong>and <strong>Manchester<\/strong>, both electing in thirds, will reveal results. Manchester can only remain Labour-held, but Blackburn could be lost.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1:00pm: Burnley <\/strong>will announce results, where ex-Labour councillors could be re-elected as independents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1:45pm:<\/strong> <strong>North Tyneside<\/strong> will remain under Labour control, even if the party loses all 17 of the seats they are defending.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2:00pm: Cheltenham<\/strong> will announce, which will likely stay in a Lib Dem hold. <strong>Hyndburn, Rochdale, Sheffield, Welwyn Hatfield<\/strong>\u00a0all elect in thirds and will likely end up or remain no overall control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2:30pm: Huntingdonshire<\/strong>, <strong>St Helens<\/strong>, <strong>Norwich, Pendle, Preston\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>West Oxfordshire<\/strong> will give results. <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/norwich\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Norwich<\/a> is predicted to end up under Green control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3:00pm: Leeds<\/strong> will declare \u2013 no overall control is possible but Labour have enough seats that a change of party to any other won\u2019t occur.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Isle of Wight<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Islington, Thurrock\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Waltham Forest<\/strong>, <strong>Cannock Chase<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Epping Forest<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Knowsley, Rushmoor\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Three Rivers\u00a0<\/strong>will announce results. No overall control is likely in all of them other than <strong>Islington<\/strong>, which will be between the Greens and Labour, and the Liberal Democrat-held\u00a0<strong>Three Rivers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3:30pm: Nuneaton &amp; Bedworth<\/strong> will reveal its results. (Photo by Paul ELLIS \/ AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p><strong>4:30pm: Harrow<\/strong> will likely announce a continued Conservative hold. <strong>Barnsley<\/strong>, usually safely Labour but heavily targeted by Reform, will declare, as will <strong>Bury<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4:45pm: <\/strong><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/newcastle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle-upon-Tyne<\/a> will declare.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5:00pm:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Barking &amp; Dagenham<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Barnet<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Brent<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Enfield<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Hackney<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Milton Keynes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Redbridge<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sandwell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Coventry<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Essex<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Walsall<\/strong>, which elect all their councillors this year, will declare. We could see\u00a0<strong>Hackney\u00a0<\/strong>shift to Green control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cambridge, St Albans<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Stevenage<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Watford<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>\u00a0Wokingham<\/strong>, all electing a third of their council, will announce results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5:30pm<\/strong>: <strong>Haringey, Hounslow, Norfolk, Sefton\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0South Tyneside<\/strong>, all electing their full council, will declare. These are some of the most hotly anticipated results of the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:00pm: Camden<\/strong>, usually safely held by Labour but with the potential to sway Green, will give results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Birmingham<\/strong>, <strong>Kingston<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Southwark, East Surrey<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>East Sussex<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kirklees<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Lambeth<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Newham<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Southwark<\/strong>, <strong>Swindon<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>West Surrey<\/strong>\u00a0will all declare, electing full councils.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adur<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Hastings<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Wakefield<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Winchester\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Worthing,\u00a0<\/strong>using the thirds model, will give results. No overall control is predicted except for <strong>Winchester<\/strong>, held by the Lib Dems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7:00pm: Bromley<\/strong>, traditionally a safe bet for the Tories, could be lost to Reform. <strong>Cherwell <\/strong>will give results too. <\/p>\n<p><strong>8:30pm: Calderdale <\/strong>will declare, with all its seats up for election.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, May 9<\/p>\n<p><strong>4:00pm:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Bradford, Croydon\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Lewisham<\/strong> will announce, with all seats up for grabs..<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:00pm: Tower
