A village<\/a> butchers is closing its doors as its owner, aged 86, retires \u2013 the end of a family business which has been running since 1926. The butchers in Tipperary, Ireland<\/a>, will reach the end of their 100 years in business as owner Tommy Myles retires.<\/p>\n

Ardfinnan\u2019s Myles Butchers shut over the May bank holiday<\/a>, on Saturday, May 2, bringing Mr Myles\u2019 70 years in service to a close.<\/p>\n

While the decision was not easy, Mr Myles stated that challenging trading conditions led to it.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Mr Myles said: “Now, in my 87th year, with over 70 years working in the shop, the time has come for me to retire<\/a>, and in light of the extremely difficult trading circumstances in recent years, I believe this is the right decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

    “The shop has proudly served the Ardfinnan, Ballybacon, Grange, Newcastle and the surrounding areas since my father started the business in 1926, and after 100 years at the heart of the village, this decision has not been made lightly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

    Mr Myles thanked his past and present staff for all their hard work, also thanking customers who made the shop a key part of Ardfinnan village. He also paid tribute to his late wife, Ina, and his family.<\/p>\n

    The butcher owner added: \u201cWe will miss the fun, the chats, and the craic with all of you, something which has been at the heart of your visits to us over the years.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Independent Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath also paid tribute to Tommy Myles and his family, wishing him a pleasant retirement.<\/p>\n

    “Best wishes to Myles Butchers, Ardfinnan, as they cease trading after 100 years in business,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

    “A special tribute is extended to Tommy, his family, and the entire staff for their lifetime of service to the people of Ardfinnan and beyond. I wish them all a very happy and healthy retirement,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

    Locals took to social media to express gratitude for Mr Myles\u2019 work along with sadness about his departure from the business.<\/p>\n

    One user said: \u201cWishing you all the best for the future\u2026 I remember Myles butchers as a child I used to love when my dad, Jeff Burke Goatenbridge, would bring home the home made puddings\u2026 Loved them\u201d.<\/p>\n

    Another said: \u201cWishing you all the best in your retirement, Tommy, Paddy, and the rest of the team!
