{"id":943650,"date":"2026-05-07T11:12:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T11:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/943650\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T11:12:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T11:12:17","slug":"one-of-sheffields-biggest-art-exhibitions-to-take-place-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/943650\/","title":{"rendered":"One of Sheffield&#8217;s biggest art exhibitions to take place this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/openupsheffield.co.uk\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/openupsheffield.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open Up Sheffield<\/a> hosted their annual art exhibition over bank holiday weekend and it will repeat this weekend with different artists in their venues choosing to display their work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Open Up Sheffield has been celebrating Sheffield\u2019s cultural vibrancy and showcasing up and coming artists for over 25 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tom Heller, 80, an artist that took part in the exhibition, said: \u201cThis is a big feature of Sheffield\u2019s cultural and creative life, who knows what\u2019s going on in artistic studios all over the place?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a great part of the cultural year\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The annual open studio event now has over 140 talented artists in over 90 venues opening up their studios for visitors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Mr Heller said: \u201cFor me, it\u2019s an opportunity to sell my stuff because I sell all my work in aid of a charity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll my money goes to a charity called <a href=\"https:\/\/spreadinghealth.org\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spreading health<\/a> which trains nurses in Cameroon\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"546\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/open-up-sheff-2-1024x546.jpg\" alt=\"ceramic work for sale at Tom Heller's exhibition\" class=\"wp-image-71001\"  \/>Ceramics stands at Tom Heller\u2019s bank holiday exhibition as part of Open Up Sheffield<\/p>\n<p>Mr Heller\u2019s work will not be on display this weekend but other artists across Sheffield will be eager for locals to pay a visit to their studios. Exhibitions such as these are where artists make the majority of their money. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Open up Sheffield\u2019s exhibitions are a big attraction for people interested in art nationwide and even abroad. Mr Heller said: \u201cI have sold some stuff to people taking it back to their house in Turkey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They are run by its members on a not-for-profit basis. They have a small committee that works across the year to organise and market the event as well as help artists welcome visitors into their studios.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rivelinco.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RivelinCo<\/a> is one of Open Up Sheffield\u2019s sponsors.
