{"id":944364,"date":"2026-05-07T18:40:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T18:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/944364\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T18:40:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T18:40:15","slug":"derelict-somerset-factory-could-be-turned-into-aldi-and-housing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/944364\/","title":{"rendered":"Derelict Somerset factory could be turned into Aldi and housing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A derelict paper bag factory could be turned into a supermarket, nursing home and housing according to provisional plans.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Budget supermarket chain Aldi has submitted a pre-application to Somerset Council regarding the former Welton Bibby &amp; Baron site in Midsomer Norton, meaning a full planning application could follow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The site was identified in the council&#8217;s Local Plan in 2023 as a possible location for a supermarket.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Councillor for Midsomer Norton North Shaun Hughes said the news was a &#8220;positive development&#8221; for the town as the site had been vacant for more than a decade.
