This deficit has a direct impact on production efficiency, price dynamics and the competitiveness of the sector, EastFruit reports.

According to market participants, losses of vegetable products may reach 30%, mainly due to the lack of proper storage infrastructure and the continued use of outdated technologies. In many farms, storage capacity is either very limited or absent altogether.

In response to this pressing need from the agribusiness sector, WINHUB is developing a network of next-generation logistics parks with integrated vegetable storage facilities. The project envisages the creation of 1 million sq. m of Class A logistics parks along key Ukraine–EU transport corridors — in Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv and Dnipro.

WINHUB is building European-level infrastructure in Ukraine, with a focus on technology, energy efficiency and convenience for business. The model includes modern vegetable storage facilities equipped with advanced storage technologies. Each park is designed as a full-service ecosystem to ensure uninterrupted operations for residents and support the development of local communities.

For Ukraine’s fruit and vegetable sector, this is particularly important. According to industry estimates, the shortage of vegetable storage capacity increased from 40% in 2021 to 60% in 2025. In practical terms, this means that many producers are still forced to sell their produce immediately after harvest — precisely when supply pressure is at its highest and seasonal prices are at their lowest.

Vegetable storage as a price management tool

A modern vegetable storage facility is not simply a place to keep produce. It is a tool for managing stocks, quality and sales timing.

The development of modern storage capacity can shift the market logic from “quick sales from the field” to controlled stock and price management. When the market is oversupplied after harvest, prices often fall sharply.

Producers without access to quality storage have to sell quickly, even when margins are minimal. Those who can maintain produce in marketable condition gain the opportunity to enter the market later — when prices are more favourable and demand is more stable.

WINHUB: from logistics parks to post-harvest infrastructure

One of WINHUB’s key projects in southern Ukraine is ODESA INDUSTRIAL PARK. It is a large-scale industrial park with convenient transport connections and proximity to important logistics routes. According to the company, the park will include around 150,000 sq. m of Class A warehouse buildings, as well as administrative and office premises, R&D facilities, a hotel-hostel and other services for residents.

A separate area within this model is the development of a network of vegetable storage facilities with a capacity of 15,000 tonnes in Odesa and other regions of Ukraine.

The key difference in WINHUB’s approach is that the project is not limited to product storage. The format provides integrated post-harvest infrastructure, including: temperature and humidity control; sorting and product preparation; packing; preparation of batches for sale.

This model meets the needs of the modern market, where retailers, traders, importers and exporters require not only volumes, but also stable quality, predictable batches, standardisation, attractive product appearance and controlled sales periods.

Why the storage deficit is an economic problem

Losses of up to 30–35% of vegetable production are not just a technological problem for individual farms. They mean lost revenue, a weaker negotiating position for producers, unstable supply for retailers and additional price pressure on consumers.

For producers, the lack of infrastructure means lower margins and greater dependence on seasonal market conditions. For traders, it creates risks related to quality and volumes. For exporters, it complicates the formation of standardised batches that meet the requirements of professional buyers.

The emergence of network-based logistics parks with vegetable storage facilities could change the economics of the market itself. When producers gain access not only to storage space, but also to temperature control, sorting, product preparation, packing and logistics, the crop stops being a perishable product with a short sales window. It becomes a manageable commercial resource.

For producers, this may mean lower post-harvest losses, a higher share of marketable produce, the ability to sell during periods of higher prices, more stable cash flow and a stronger position in negotiations with retailers, traders and exporters.

For the market as a whole, such infrastructure could reduce seasonal price volatility, improve the efficiency of supply chains and strengthen the export potential of Ukrainian vegetable production.

WINHUB works with producers, traders, importers and exporters.

Contacts for cooperation:
[email protected]
+380 (67) 622-67-00
+380 93 182 1255
winhub.com.ua
terwingroup.com

     EastFruit

The use of the site materials is free if there is a direct and open for search engines hyperlink to a specific publication of the East-Fruit.com website.

Ukraine’s fruit and vegetable market is facing a systemic bottleneck: a shortage of modern storage capacity, currently estimated…

[7654
142509,180459,2000,299,264006,264007,137064,264008,264009,264010,264011,264012,83740,21442,264013,1828,128447,657,264014,264015,264016,264017
0":"post-945726","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-ukraine","8":"tag-agribusiness","9":"tag-cold-storage","10":"tag-eu","11":"tag-europe","12":"tag-export-potential","13":"tag-food-logistics","14":"tag-fresh-produce","15":"tag-fruit-and-vegetable-market","16":"tag-logistics-infrastructure","17":"tag-odesa-industrial-park","18":"tag-post-harvest-infrastructure","19":"tag-post-harvest-losses","20":"tag-producers","21":"tag-retailers","22":"tag-storage-capacity","23":"tag-supply-chain","24":"tag-traders","25":"tag-ukraine","26":"tag-ukrainian-vegetables","27":"tag-vegetable-sector","28":"tag-vegetable-storage","29":"tag-winhub
["GET
