A missed opportunity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other readers, were more enthusiastic about the building.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s nice and all, but surely incorporating PV into the roofscape would have been beneficial,&#8221; wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/35mgwxr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chris D<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;White-stained timber cladding works well in this setting, and the massing and roofline are spot on,&#8221; added <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/35mhyx2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chewie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/04\/30\/hollaway-studio-westview-cottage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Join the discussion \u203a<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/05\/05\/parametricism-introduction-owen-hopkins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2324458 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/parametricism-guide-hero_dezeen_2364_col_0-1-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Parametricism illustration by Jack Bedford\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1330\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/a>Parametricism is the architecture &#8220;of neoliberalism itself&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Thank God it is expensive to build&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also stoking plenty of debate in the comments this week was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/05\/05\/parametricism-introduction-owen-hopkins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the launch of Dezeen&#8217;s new series on parametricism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/35o29ti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frank Lloyd Wrong<\/a> expressed his appreciation for the 21st century&#8217;s defining architectural style. &#8220;In my opinion, anything mathematically derived is beautiful and sublime, and we have barely scratched the surface,&#8221; he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Others were less supportive. &#8220;Parametricism was always an un-human, scaleless, and paradoxical attempt to claim &#8216;land&#8217; it was always incapable of occupying,&#8221; said <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/35o16tf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Chase Martin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank God it is expensive to build,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/35nw359\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milton Welch<\/a> added. &#8220;The overall structure I can live with, but to have the entire building as a mindless and arbitrary swirl, it is becoming tiresome.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some commenters chose to focus on the introduction&#8217;s discussion of neoliberalism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While I appreciate the energy and the critical spirit of this one, I found the assimilation between parametricism and neoliberalism, which is what drew me to read the article, an interesting one but an incomplete one,&#8221; said <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/35nu3nu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Muhammad Ejle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The vast majority of buildings designed by architects are parametric by their very nature, and always have been,&#8221; argued <a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/35ntuhi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfred Hitchcock<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/disq.us\/p\/35nyzj2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frank<\/a> agreed. &#8220;Architects find patterns and direct them, whether they come from curved splines in software or a deformed entablature in Baroque Rome\u2026&#8221; he said. &#8220;It has always been this way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Have you had your say yet?
