Zack Polanski has declared Britain\u2019s two-party politics \u201cdead and buried\u201d as his Green party won its first ever mayoral election.<\/p>\n
The Greens unseated Labour from mayoral power in the east London<\/a> borough of Hackney after 24 years. The new mayor, Zo\u00eb Garbett, told reporters she was \u201celated\u201d and promised it was just the beginning, after the party won with 35,720 votes to Labour\u2019s 26,865.<\/p>\n\u201cAcross London and the country, people have made it clear that they are desperate for an alternative to this failing Labour government,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s not old politics \u2026 versus new parties. This is about a system of fear versus a movement of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cAll the work I\u2019ve ever done has been to change the system and services that let people down, harm people and widen inequality.
