the\u00a0fascinating\u00a0historical\u00a0link\u00a0between\u00a0this\u00a0tropical region\u00a0and the capital\u2019s transport network.<\/p>\n<p>Seventy years ago in\u00a01956, London Transport launched a recruitment campaign in the Caribbean, inviting people to work on buses\u00a0and\u00a0in\u00a0stations, in staff canteens and on track maintenance.\u00a0The contribution Caribbean people and their families\u00a0have\u00a0made to\u00a0London\u2019s\u00a0transport\u00a0and\u00a0their\u00a0influence on the city\u2019s culture\u00a0since then\u00a0has shaped\u00a0the\u00a0London\u00a0we know today.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over May half term, the Museum will celebrate\u00a0London\u2019s Caribbean\u00a0connection\u00a0through family arts and crafts workshops and\u00a0storytelling Museum\u2019s\u00a0exhibition,\u00a0Legacies: London Transport\u2019s Caribbean Workforce\u00a0before it\u00a0closes\u00a0on\u00a05\u00a0July.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The exhibition\u00a0documents\u00a0the\u00a0move\u00a0of around 6,000 Caribbean people to London between 1956\u00a0and\u00a01970 following a recruitment drive\u00a0from London\u00a0Transport.\u00a0It\u00a0traces\u00a0the experiences of those who made the journey and the lasting impact of this\u00a0period\u00a0on London\u2019s transport,\u00a0society\u00a0and culture.\u00a0Visitors can uncover stories and memories from first, second and third generation Caribbean people, from those who worked for London Transport in the 1950s and 1960s\u00a0\u2013 including the struggles these individuals and their families endured at the start of their new lives in the capital \u2013\u00a0to today\u2019s employees.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The exhibition tells this story through\u00a0a showcase of\u00a0archive photography of potential applicants to LT\u2019s recruitment campaign in Barbados, recorded oral histories from people of Caribbean heritage, written quotes from early arrivals to the UK, historic newspaper clippings, maps and a fun interactive to\u00a0identify\u00a0modern-day Caribbean Commonwealth flags.<\/p>\n<p>Entry to the exhibition
