The insights provided will inform my next steps, which I will consider carefully,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-o1jaq54\">\u201cI recognise that addressing the issues identified in the review is a complex undertaking and that many of the recommendations propose significant changes to current practices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-2s47s57\">\u201cDetailed consideration is necessary to ensure robust policy proposals can be developed to deliver meaningful improvements to animal welfare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-z1c6n60\">The Minister\u2019s response signals that any future changes could involve new regulatory standards, tighter oversight, or updated breeding requirements designed to improve protections for dogs bred and sold in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-b3a3363\">For breeders, dog owners and prospective buyers across Northern Ireland, the review could ultimately influence how dogs are bred, licensed, sold and cared for in the future.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-weight:700\">Group says Northern Ireland has chance to \u201clead the way\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-z6zpy69\">Launching the report, <strong style=\"font-weight:700\">Professor Arnott <\/strong>described the review as an opportunity to fundamentally modernise existing regulations with animal welfare placed firmly at the centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-ghwb972\">\u201cIt has been a privilege to Chair the Expert Advisory Group tasked with reviewing the dog breeding regulations in Northern Ireland,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-c0ocf75\">\u201cTogether with the other members of the group, Vanessa Barnes and Susan Cunningham, we viewed the task as a timely opportunity to reform the existing regulations, with animal welfare as a central focus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-bgqp078\">\u201cGiven the role dogs play as family companions, we felt the responsibility of the task and the need to ensure an ethical and sustainable supply of dogs that are equipped to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-dka6981\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\">Professor Arnott<\/strong> also thanked organisations and individuals who contributed evidence to the review process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-3gjuj84\">\u201cThis, together with existing published literature has informed our report and recommendations,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-xlu7r87\">The group believes the recommendations could position Northern Ireland as a leader in animal welfare standards relating to dog breeding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-lyyl190\">\u201cIn the report we outline a series of recommendations that provide a framework that would place Northern Ireland at the forefront of safeguarding animal welfare in relation to dog breeding,\u201d Professor Arnott said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dUraF _0Jf6a Nv1gb YXSPe\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-5e8nr93\">\u201cThe ambition of the group is to see reform that results in Northern Ireland leading the way in standards of dog breeding.
