As political division surrounding migration continues to grow, volunteers throughout Sheffield are helping the city\u2019s most vulnerable discover connection and support.<\/p>\n
At St. Mary\u2019s Church<\/a> and City of Sanctuary Sheffield<\/a>, community-driven initiatives within the council\u2019s network of Welcome Places<\/a> strive to create welcoming spaces for those adjusting to life in the UK.<\/p>\n Volunteers say their work extends basic support, with social interaction and open conversation playing a central role in their efforts to help people feel included.<\/p>\n \u201cSheffield welcomes those in need of help, so let\u2019s restore some humanity,\u201d says volunteer English tutor Ian McHugh.<\/p>\n Those involved say volunteering is equally rewarding, broadening their perspectives through meeting people from diverse cultures, various backgrounds and different life experiences.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
