TEN young people from Omagh have been selected to take part in the internationally recognised Ulster Project, a unique peace-building initiative that will see them travel to Utah, Salt Lake City on June 28 for a month-long programme.<\/p>\n
The Ulster Project brings together teenagers from different community backgrounds to promote understanding, friendship and leadership. During their time in the United States, participants will live with host families and take part in a wide range of educational, social and cultural activities designed to build lasting relationships and develop essential life skills.<\/p>\n
The group representing Omagh this year includes: Alice Hempton, Ruby Latimer, Zara McKinley, Izzy Cunningham, Aim\u00e9e Grugan, Bronagh McVerry, Logan Crosbie, Oscar Reid, Mark Birney and Conor Farley, accompanied by their leaders, Ella Adams and Conor Boyle.<\/p>\n
Ahead of their departure, the group is actively fundraising to support the costs associated with the programme.<\/p>\n
As part of these efforts, they are hosting an Annual Table Quiz on Thursday, May 14 at 8pm in the Silverbirch Hotel, Omagh. Admission is \u00a35 for adults and \u00a33 concessions, with a maximum of five people per table.<\/p>\n
The event promises a great night for the local community, with a raffle featuring a range of excellent prizes generously donated by local businesses and supporters.<\/p>\n
Arthur Rainey of the Ulster Project said: \u201cThis programme offers young people a unique opportunity to step outside their comfort zone, build lifelong friendships and develop the skills needed to become future leaders within their communities. The support from the local community plays a vital role in making this experience possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The group is calling on the local community to come along, take part and show their support as they prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.<\/p>\n
